Knuckles KO’s criticism

Knuckles Connolly believes the Wallabies were successful in his first season in charge, dismissing criticism that the team had not advanced.

Connolly, in the Sun Herald, wrote that after three successive defeats to the Springboks a year ago, he’d have taken a two-one season count in 2006.

“We regained the Mandela Plate and beat the Springboks 2-1,” wrote Connolly. “We beat Ireland and reclaimed the Cook Cup by beating England.”

Connolly said that although the team had lost to the All Blacks on three successive occasions, the gap had been narrowed.

The reality, though, is the Wallabies lost all three their away games and lost to the All Blacks in Brisbane — the first time a Wallabies team had lost in Brisbane in a decade.
