George Smith has cut off his trademark dreadlocks and donated them to a cancer charity.
â€œI wouldnâ€™t expect much for them, but anything for the charity would be great,â€ Smith told the Daily Telegraph.
Smithâ€™s distinctive dreadlocks have been one of the more bizarre talking points in international rugby.
All Black flanker Jerry Collins was caught on television yanking them in a match this year while the Boks denied claims they had been betting amongst each other as to who could pull one out.
â€œItâ€™s been a long time since Iâ€™ve had a haircut, so I thought it was about time,â€ Smith said. â€œIt wasnâ€™t the pulling. I felt it would be good to get rid of the long hair.â€
