Brumbies bash Reds

The Brumbies are Australia’s first official provincial champions.

The renegades of a decade ago were comfortable APC winners in the inaugural final, beating Eddie Jones’s Reds 42-17. The Brumbies lead 21-3 at halftime.

Reports on the final indicate that former Waratahs loose forward Stephen Hoiles was the standout player in the one-sided final and that he may have won a spot in the national squad of 37 to tour Europe in November.

Only 4000 spectators paid to watch the final, which was not on television either, but importantly for Hoiles Australian coach John Connolly and his selectors were among the 4000 at the ground.

None of the senior Wallabies in either team played, but there was opportunity for fringe players to press for Super 14 squad inclusions and possibly even sneak an invite to Europe with the Wallabies.
