Bath denied an upset

An injury-time try by Bristol winger Marko Stanojevic ensured a narrow 22-18 victory over Bath in the EDF Energy Cup game played on Sunday.

After breaking the deadlock with a drop goal by Chris Malone in the 64th minute, Bath, who have not won at the Memorial Stadium since 1998, were looking good for the upset, leading 18-15. But the hosts did well to keep the ball alive in the dying seconds and claimed a well-fought victory.

The win is another great result for the Bristol side, who are also fairing well in the Premiership with four victories on the trot.

In the competition’s other Sunday fixture, the Llanelli Scarlets eased to victory over the Harlequins by 26-7.

The leaders of the Magners League outscored their English counterparts by four tries to one, with Ugo Monye’s try on the stroke of half-time being the only joy for the otherwise hapless ‘Quins.
