Former Springbok Selborne Boome is unlikely to play in this Saturday’s semi-final against the Vodacom Blue Bulls due to a shoulder injury.
The Vodacom Western Province lock sustained a ligament tear to his shoulder against Griquas last week, and has been ruled out for the playoff at Loftus Versfeld. Another assessment of his condition will be done later today.
This is the second injury he has suffered since rejoining the Cape Town side halfway through the season, with a knee problem keeping him out a few weeks before.
Centre Werner Greeff and fullback Gio Aplon were also sidelined at Monday’s training session in Bellville. Greeff is nursing a niggle picked up in a club game, while Aplon is still not 100% after suffering a hip injury in the Lions fixture on 23 September. Both are expected to rejoin the ranks in the next day or so, and should be ready for the weekend.
WP look set to welcome back lock Francois van der Merwe and blindside flanker Justin Melck in the starting XV, but it is expected that the run-on side will only be known for certain on match day.
