Kobus van der Merwe has followed Rassie Erasmus’s example by subjecting his players to Loftus Versfeld’s terrible tunes.
Erasmus last year tortured the Cheetahs by playing Steve Hofmeyr’s “Ek bly ‘n bul’ during practices at Free State Stadium in order to prepare them for the unique atmosphere of Pretoria.
Now, Western Province’s players are undergoing the same shock treatment ahead of their semi-final on Saturday, although they’re also having to stomach Dozi’s Ryperd and Ge Korsten’s Liefling.
“We are conditioning the players for what they will encounter in the semifinal clash on Saturday at Loftus,” Van der Merwe told journalists. “I want the players to get used to the noise levels.
“We are expecting a very noisy stadium. The idea is to put them under pressure to make the right decisions in the kind of conditions.”
