Brent Russell will be the beneficiary of Adrian Jacobs’s injury in the Sharks Absa Currie Cup semi-final against the Cheetahs.
Russell is expected to finally get a start after the injured Jacobs was confirmed a non-starter because of a hamstring injury. Coach Dick Muir will only name his team later in the week, but Russell appears the obvious choice after replacing Jacobs as a second half replacement in the last three matches.
Francois Steyn, who played flyhalf in the 37-35 defeat against the Cheetahs a fortnight ago, is also expected to play ahead of Butch James.
Speculation in Durban is that Muir will make just the two changes to his backline from the last outing against the Falcons, with Ruan Pienaar returning and Russell in for the unavailable Jacobs.
The pack changes will see Bismarck du Plessis back at hooker, while Johann Muller will play at lock.
