Bulls won’t show mercy

Gary Botha says the Vodacom Blue Bulls will hold nothing back for Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup final.

Speaking to Beeld rugby writer Morris Gilbert, Botha said his team would not make excuses for playing physical rugby.

“We don’t show mercy nor do we ask for mercy,” said the captain. “Rugby is a contact sport and our approach has not changed since the days of the great legends of Blue Bulls rugby.

“We get stuck in to intimidate our opponents, but all within the laws. We will not abandon that just because the Cheetahs think we are malicious.

“How physical you are, depends on your disposition. If you have an approach of ‘if you can dish it out you must be able to take it’ a physical game will become your trade mark; as with the Bulls.”

Botha also had a dig at the Free Staters, hinting that they weren’t as physical as people thought.

“The Cheetahs are physical opponents but one should not discard the Sharks as maybe the most physical opponents in the Currie Cup competition,”he said.
