Wynand Olivier is out of the Absa Currie Cup final.
The Springbok has suffered a reoccurrence of the knee injury that sidelined him for a short period after the Bulls second-round match against the Sharks. Team management said yesterday they would postpone a decision on his availability until shortly before they departed for Bloemfontein.
The Bulls confirmed this morning that Olivier will play no part in the showpiece match and he has been replaced by Dries Scholtz.
Scholtz produced sublime displays of powerful centre play in both encounters in the competition against the Cheetahs this season and the defending champions said they were acutely aware of the threat he poses.
“We know Dries very well by reputation, and while he has played some good games against us this year, there will be less space in the final,” Cheetahs backline coach Franco Smith told the Cape Times.
