Vodacom Bulls lock Hottie Louw will end his playing career overseas.
Louw signed a four month contract with the Pretoria-based side, but is still contracted to Llanelli Scarlets. The Bulls have decided not to extend his deal, a decision he said was unfortunate but he has now set his sights on an overseas move.
“Everything is still a bit in the air and I’m waiting for my agent to phone me, but I have a number of options that I am considering,” Louw told the Pretoria News.
“I was hoping for an offer to stay at the Bulls, but I had originally decided that I would go overseas again at the end of the Currie Cup. I am still under contract at Llanelli and I’m waiting to find out what exactly is happening there.”
He confirmed that English clubs Bath and Newcastle had expressed interest as had some clubs in France, where he has experience having played for Montferrand as well as Clermont Auvergne.
Louw, who has been capped three times for the Springboks, was liberal in his praise of the joint Absa Currie Cup champions
“I enjoyed my time a lot here at the Blue Bulls and I can understand why they are such a successful side,” Louw said. “I hope they can take that success further in the next few years and create something special here at Loftus.
“While we didn’t win the Currie Cup on Saturday, I told the guys that it is still an honour – there aren’t many teams in the history books who have shared a Currie Cup trophy before.”
