Springbok legends Naas Botha and Joel Stransky will go head-to-head for the post of Vodacom Blue Bulls CEO.
The Pretoria News this morning reported that the union had received in excess of 150 applications for the position. Stephan Pretorius last month vacanted the post after successful a six-year tenure.
The union was guarded about releasing any information regarding the matter but a Blue Bulls Company board of directors member confirmed the two former flyhalves had applied for the job.
Botha is currently the director of rugby at the Valke Rugby Union while Stransky is a popular rugby commentator and has a business background having worked as the commercial director of promotions company Megapro.
The duo will compete with Jaco Beukes, who is the financial director of SAIL, the Bulls’ main shareholder.
The five applicants most suitable candidates will now be invited for interviews.
“We are in the process of going through the applications; we can’t say more than that,” according to acting CEO Barend van Graan.
Boet Fick, president of the union was equally non-committal on the issue.
“It is going ahead as per schedule; that is all I can say,” Fick said. “We will do everything in our power to find the right candidate.”
The post brings with it control of what is generally considered to be the most influential and powerful union in South Africa.
