Boland have dismissed rumours that they are negotiating with former All Black flyhalf Carlos Spencer.
With new sponsor Fidentia having helped sign several new players, including Hanyani Shimange, Quinton Davids, John Daniels, Hennie Danniller, Nel Fourie, Roland Reid, Jacques Schutte, Jane du Toit and Andries Human, the arrival of Spencer (who is currently with Northampton) seemed possible.
However, Boland spokesman Jeremy Gerber said the Spencer rumours were exactly that.
“Wellington is full of All Black supporters and I was explaining to someone that it would be great if we could get someone like Carlos to play with us,” he told Weekend Argus rugby writer Gavin Rich. “He would be a massive drawcard, but I was not saying that we were talking to him.”
Boland won the First Division this season and have set themselves the goal of winning the Currie Cup in 2008.
