Why Paulse’s still positive
23 Oct 2006
Breyton Paulse’s spirit has not been broken, despite being dropped by Springbok coach Jake White.
In the new issue of SA Rugby magazine, on sale this week for just R18.95, the winger insists he can make an impact for the Boks at the 2007 World Cup.
“I am still in good condition and I reckon I have lots to give,” he says. “Apart from anything else I can offer experience to the younger players. I would love to have a good World Cup.”
Further on in the article, Paulse expresses his frustration with the national selectors.
“I don’t mind being dropped when I play badly, I just want to be treated fairly,” he says. “I did not feel that I needed a rest for the home leg of the Tri-Nations. I had hardly played on the overseas leg and I was hungry to play.”
Also in the new issue of SA Rugby magazine, on sale this week:
– Unlocking Twickenham: Nick Mallett, Corne Krige and Gary Gold pick their match 22s to beat England.
– Pierre Spies: “We will be ready for England”.
– Why Stuart Abbott turned down Rudolf Straeuli in 2003.
– Lions centre Jaco Pretorius puts his foot on the gas.
– Saluting our Currie Cup stars: Gio Aplon, Gary Botha, Warren Britz and Phillip Burger.
– How Murray Mexted’s Academy gave Francois Steyn an edge.
– What the Boks can learn from rugby league’s defensive systems.
– Five former All Blacks rate the best team in the world (and explain why there’s still plenty of room for improvement).
– Keo on why the Boks must dominate the rucks in Dublin if they’re to avoid another defeat to Ireland.
– Naas selects his best backs of the Currie Cup, and Mallett his best forwards (expect some surprises).
– Who knows Schalk Burger better? His brother Tiaan or girlfriend Michele?
– How foreigners have invaded the Premiership.
– PLUS: We begin our World Cup countdown.

ROCK-ON SA RUGBY MAGAZINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
23 Oct 2006, 14:43 pm
White knows what he’s got in Paulse, probably a tactical move to leave him out. I think leaving Russel out is a bigger worry.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
Paulse the Absolute LEGEND on the cover!!!!!!!!

Paulse you do not have a lot to give, unless you are referring to splinters that you will be earning alongside Eddie, Sephaka and Shimange.
You were once a great player, but now you are a joke (like our clown of a coach). The final insult was when you decided to laugh and smile during that 49-0 drubbing. Lately you are the biggest silly on the rugby field, always too scared to make a tackle for fear of breaking a nail.

Paulse is duidelik
23 Oct 2006, 18:16 pm
Skim, your absolutely right! Paulse is a legend! It pisses me off when ignorant people judge brilliant players like Paulse based on… well absolutely no knowledge of the player or the game im sure. Paulse has pace, vision and CAN TACKLE! He got the ball about 6 time during the last tri-nations and ran amazingly in all 6 cases… Oh he also scored on two of those occasions…

Ja but Paulse, how are you gonna show your stuff…….you signed with WP if not mistaken and will be competing with Seconds, Jo, Aplon, Booi, Nokwe, Fiji, Benjamin, Ryland, and some others for a spot in the S14……..
Are you comfortable you gonna get game time…???!?
23 Oct 2006, 21:48 pm
wasn’t paulse also passed over by his french club in less than a season? not much of an impact?
23 Oct 2006, 23:33 pm
Paulse was the best Bokke winger in the 3N- I don’t know how any of you can knock him. 71, he should get plenty of game time for the Stormers over that B-list of wingers he’ll be competing with.
24 Oct 2006, 02:34 am
Pulse will be the best of the Stormers wingers.
Unfortunatly SA have **** wingers in general. This is an area targeted by quotas, as a result, it is non-competative. What chance does a white wing have? Both Marius Delport & Louis Ludik look like they have potential, but will never sniff the Springbok jersy because they are the ‘wrong’ colour.
24 Oct 2006, 08:54 am
Ludik won’t be passed over. If he has a decent S14 (come on, of course the Lions will be there), I have a feeling he might even make the WC squad. He is a fantastic talent.
Delport, on the other hand, is an arrogant shmuck who deserves to spend his days loitering on the wing, making riveting smalltalk with legends like Nel and Welsh on his inside while his mullet slowly develops and thrusts him into new depths of tackiness and ridicule.
24 Oct 2006, 09:15 am
Delport is twice the player Ludik will ever be!
24 Oct 2006, 09:27 am
Ja, sure he is. Don’t know what I was thinking there.
Not.
The only images the world has of Delport’s 2006 Currie Cup season is of him arriving too late to save countless tries in his corner and of him shoving people’s faces in the ground after the whistle. Oh, and let’s not forget his blossoming mullet in it’s infant stages – business in the front, party at the back. Douchebag all round. But if that’s your thing, then go ahead and rate Delport by all means.

70* Klik
I can’t recall any better ones!
24 Oct 2006, 09:56 am
Paulse is a rugby legend and a gentleman of the sport! You cannot mention him in the same breath as the likes of Delport!
24 Oct 2006, 09:57 am
70 – Pieter Hendriks.
24 Oct 2006, 15:40 pm
Delport is way better than Ludik! Quicker, stronger and better! Live with it!
24 Oct 2006, 15:49 pm
Sounds like you’re confusing him with Steve Austin.
Steve Austin didn’t wear a mullet – that’s probably the easiest way to tell them apart.
