The Springboks will play both of their 2007 home Tests against England at altitude.
Having controversially missed out on hosting a Test this season, Bloemfontein will be the venue for the Boks’ first game of 2007, and their first at home against England since 2000. The second Test of the series will be held at Loftus in Pretoria, where the Boks were thumped by the Poms in 1994.
The choice of venues for these Tests is a bit surprising. The Boks are playing England at sea level at the World Cup in France, and were expected to prepare for that game by playing the two-Test series in Durban and Cape Town.
In their other home Tests, the Boks will play Samoa at Ellis Park (hardly a crowd puller for the embattled Golden Lions Rugby Union), before kicking off their Vodacom Tri-Nations campain at Newlands against the Wallabies, and taking on the All Blacks at King’s Park a week later.
The proposed fixture list will be presented to the SA Rugby Board on Thursday for approval.
