Fitness freak joins Boks

Keo.co.za tells you all you need to know about new Springbok fitness coach Steve McIntyre.

McIntyre recently replaced strength coach Mark Steele in the Bok management team, and several Muppits have asked for more information on the man.

McIntyre has been involved in rugby since his youth, with a string of successes at school, club and provincial level.

He played for Maties (Stellenbosch University) and Western Province U21, before his promising rugby-playing career was cut short by a series of injuries, the last of which came during a playing contract in Hong Kong.

As a scrumhalf, McIntyre had Jacques Kallis as his flyhalf at Wynberg High, and at Craven Week he combined with Herschelle Gibbs. At other times, he also played alongside Percy Montgomery, Corné Krige and Dave von Hoesslin.

When his playing career was over, McIntyre decided to study sports science and built a career for himself in the world of fitness.

He now runs a successful personal training business and gym at the world-renowned Groot Constantia Wine Estate.
