Dan Carter will start for the All Blacks in Sunday’s Test at Twickenham after Nick Evans was forced out with a hamstring injury.
Fullback Leon MacDonald will take Carter’s place among the replacements.
It’s a major disappointment for Evans who missed the entire winter Test series in New Zealand as he recovered from shoulder surgery.
All Black coach Graham Henry said he was going to try to play as many players as possible in the first two games against England and France.
“That way the majority will get on the track and then we can pick the best 22 for the third game in Paris against the French and then in Wales in Cardiff,” he said. “That policy was stated before we left.”
However, Henry said that the 22 he’s picked for Sunday’s Test were more than capable of beating England.
“We have selected a strong team, we are playing quality opposition and they have a strong team out and this is probably not far off our best team,” said Henry.
