Dan Vickerman’s European tour seems to be over after the South African-born Wallaby hurt his shoulder again.
Vickerman further damaged the shoulder in the Wallabies 29-all draw against Wales in Cardiff and medical opinion is likely to confirm an end to his season.
Wallabies coach John Connolly said Vickerman was the major injury concern, but there is also a worry over Stephen Larkham, who left the field with an injured shoulder.
Connolly rued missed opportunities and also some inconsistent goalkicking from Mat Giteau when reflecting on Australia’s first draw with Wales.
Connolly said Wales had kicked superbly (seven from seven) and that Giteau’s first half misses had proved costly.
More than that, though, was his team’s inability to close the deal when leading 17-6 after 30 minutes.
Captain Phil Waugh was as critical of his team’s ill-discipline in letting Wales back into the team.
Connolly felt Giteau had done well at scrumhalf and suggested he would start at scrumhalf against Italy next weekend.
