The Springbok back three to play against Ireland will not have a single Test cap between them.
Jake White is expected to name 19-year-old Francois Steyn and Springbok Sevens captain Jaco Pretorius on the wings, with Free State’s Bevin Fortuin at fullback.
Steyn played flyhalf and fullback for the Sharks this season, while Pretorius excelled at centre for the Golden Lions. Both will be played out of position on their Test debuts.
“We know what depth we have scrumhalf, flyhalf and centre,” said White on Monday. “The positions that we are uncertain about are the wings and the fullback.
“We have players such as Bryan Habana and Breyton Paulse on the wing, but Frans, Jaco and JP Pietersen will be given opportunities to play on tour.
“We hope they will come through in these positions. Jaco is a Sevens Springbok and should be able to attack from the outside. Frans can play at flyhalf, inside centre or wing.”
White said Ireland would adopt a conservative game plan in northern hemisphere conditions.
“We expect Ireland to do a lot of kicking. We hope the taller and bigger wings can win back the ball for us. We must remember that we will be playing on heavy grounds here,” he said.
