Tana Umaga is back with the All Blacks – but not as a player.
All Blacks coach Graham Henry confirmed that Umaga would join the All Blacks for their fortnight double header against the French, firstly in Lyon and then in Paris.
It is unclear whether Umaga will get a run, with Henry using the world ‘probably not’ when discussing the former All Blacks captain.
Umaga is on a three month contract with second division club Toulon. He has played two matches for them and scored in both matches. He scored with his first touch of the ball and Toulon have won both matches he has been involved in.
“There’s an invite for him to be involved with us to a limited extent,” Henry told the New Zealand media. “He won’t probably play but it’ll be good to see him, because he’s held in very high regard by the guys and they find him very motivational and it would be good if he could be here.
“We did discuss before he left home the opportunity of coming here and coming to Paris (ahead of the second French test) and he was keen to do so if commitments allowed him.”
