England have suffered a massive blow ahead the first Test against South Africa after losing Ian Balshaw to injury.
A calf injury sustained in training has sidelined the fullback for the Twickenham encounter.
Balshaw was a shining light in a diabolical England outfit and underlined his value with a brilliant long-range try against Argentina last Saturday.
His penchant for the counterattack will be sorely missed by a backline that has been far to lateral in recent weeks, and coach Andy Robinson will lament the loss of a player he hoped would help stop their seven-match losing streak.
Balshaw is replaced at fullback by Josh Lewsey, who shifts from the wing, which results in a recall for Ben Cohen who was dropped following their defeat to Argentina.
