Argentina beat Italy 23-16 and Scotland were too good for the Pacific Islanders in international action at the weekend.
The Pumas, having inflicted a first ever Twickenham defeat on England a week ago, did well to raise their game and beat off a defiant Italian challenge. The Italians came close to beating the Australians a week ago and will take heart from another inspired performance.
Scotland’s 34-22 win against the Islanders again came at a price, with the Scots facing an injury crisis ahead of the Six Nations.
Scotland led 31-5 at halftime, but the crowd did get to see one Rupeni Caucaunibuca try.
In Rome, Pumas flyhalf Federico Todeschini, one of the stars of Argentina’s first victory at Twickenham, scored one of the Pumas’ two tries and kicked two conversions and three penalties for 18 points in Rome.
