Pelous out of Pumas clash
21 Nov 2006
France captain Fabien Pelous has failed a fitness test and will play no part in their Test against Argentina at the Stade de France on Saturday.
He is joined on the sidelines by scrumhalf Jean-Baptiste Elissalde who is nursing an injury to his right calf.
The French medical staff yesterday described Pelous’ chances of playing as “very good” but a subsequent fitness test showed that the rib injury he sustained in their first clash against the All Blacks won’t stand up to the rigors of a Test match.
Pelous and Elissalde will be replaced by the Clermont duo of lock Loic Jacquet, who wins his second cap, and scrum-half Pierre Mignoni, who has 17 caps.
Rafael Ibanez will captain the side in Pelous’ absence.
Revised French squad:
Forwards (12): Dimitri Szarzewski (Stade Francais), Raphael Ibanez (Wasps/ENG, captain), Sylvain Marconnet (Stade Francais), Pieter De Villiers (Stade Francais), Olivier Milloud (Bourgoin), Loic Jacquet (Clermont), Lionel Nallet (Castres), Pascal Pape (Castres), Julien Bonnaire (Bourgoin), Elvis Vermeulen (Clermont), Serge Betsen (Biarritz), Remy Martin (Stade Francais)
Backs (10): Dimitri Yachvili (Biarritz), Pierre Mignoni (Clermont), Damien Traille (Biarritz), Yannick Jauzion (Toulouse), Florian Fritz (Toulouse), David Marty (Perpignan), Christophe Dominici (Stade Francais), Aurelien Rougerie (Clermont), Cedric Heymans (Toulouse), Pepito Elhorga (Agen)

PUMAS move to No 5 in the rankings after beating France. (If Poms beat the Boks).
Not unrealistic. Or is it?
Have your say
