Jake White says if Cobus Visagie can win the World Cup for the Boks then he will pick him.
White has ignored the claims of Visagie, despite the Bok’s impressive form for Saracens in the last two years. Visagie has been rated the best tighthead in the premiership and constantly gets rave reviews.
When Visagie played for the World XV against the Boks earlier in the year and gave Deon Carstens a torrid working-over, White remained unimpressed.
Now the Bok coach has had a change of heart, telling the media that it was important to pick players who could give the team a chance at next year’s World Cup.
“If it means Cobus Visagie or Kabamba Floors then I must be able to look at those selections,” said White. “I can’t be dogmatic. This is a dynamic game and things change all the time. No coach gets every decision right. I will change if it gives us a better chance of winning.”
White said he had not yet met Bob Skinstad, but would be talking to Skinstad, Andre Vos and Visagie.
“It is not to say they will come back to South Africa and play, but I am ruling out nothing. They have knowledge of playing here and living here. They have something to add and it is important to listen to what contribution they can make.”
Visagie has been included in the squad for the World XV game next weekend.
