Ruan’s ready to rock
1 Dec 2006
Ruan Pienaar will resume his battle with Justin Marshall when the Springboks meet the World XV on Sunday.
It will be Pienaar’s third game against the former All Black scrumhalf, having already come up against him in the Super 12.
“He is a clever player and I can only learn from him,” Pienaar told the Volksblad’s Hendrik Cronje. “He is particularly good at getting his forwards involved in the game.”
“I am excited about getting my turn in the starting line-up. It is always a great challenge to play against the best in the world.”
Pienaar said he expected a high-scoring game where both teams would try to entertain the crowd.
“I believe it will be a festival game and play will become loose. To be honest, I like it that way.
“I enjoy tossing the ball around whenever there is an opportunity. But because I have played so little on tour, doing the basics correctly will be important.”
While most see the World XV game as a money-making exercise that means little in the greater scheme of things, Jake White insists the team is approaching it as they would any other match.
“This is not a Test match, but it still is important to the players,” said the Bok coach.
Teams:
World XV: 15 Matt Perry, 14 Clinton Schifcofske, 13 Ryan Cross, 12 Andy Farrell, 11 Drew Mitchell, 10 Thomas Castaignède, 9 Justin Marshall, 8 Lawrence Dallaglio, 7 Jonny O’Connor, 6 Michael Owen, 5 Alister Campbell, 4 Simon Shaw, 3 Cobus Visagie, 2 Fabio Ongaro, 1 Dave Hewett.
Subs: 16 Vernet Basualdo, 17 Nic Henderson, 18 Takuro Miuchi, 19 David Croft, 20 Gareth Cooper, 21 Pablo Gomez Cora, 22 Thinus Delport.
Bok XV: 15 Bevin Fortuin, 14 Jaco Pretorius, 13 Wynand Olivier, 12 De Wet Barry, 11 JP Pietersen, 10 Francois Steyn, 9 Ruan Pienaar, 8 Danie Rossouw, 7 Gerrie Britz, 6 Wikus van Heerden, 5 Albert van den Berg, 4 Johan Ackermann, 3 CJ van der Linde, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle (c), 1 Deon Carstens.
Subs: Gary Botha, 17 Lawrence Sephaka, 18 Selborne Boome, 19 Hilton Lobberts, 20 Ricky Januarie, 21 Meyer Bosman, 22 Jongi Nokwe.

Willie
Last season. I’m interested in comparing our S14 performances against the Oz/Kiwi sides, not the SA ones.
As for playing Ruan at 10, if that’s a possibilty, **** Muir will have a ******* fit.
So far Jake has:
Arranged for Jaco to play in SA without first finding a franchise for him to play in.
Played players out of their provincial positions and complained that provinces weren’t cooperating.
And for me the most bizarre: Complaining that the Provinces and S14 coaches didn’t use the same rush defence system as he did, which was the reason for the shocking Irish result. Then 2 weeks later announce that the rush defence wasn’t that effective in the NH and he was dropping it as the premier tactic!

501 – Yeah David…hehe…quite bizarre to say the least.
Just on the rush defense quickly – Jake also stated that it worked “pretty well” in the Southern Hemisphere – he is wrong here too. I am not condeming the rush defense to redundancy here – the focus of my argument is on the # of excuses employed by our national coach. And yes, the inability of the provincial coaches to share his logic – but who can blame them as some of the proposed positional swithces by Jake is and was…as you state it lightly…bizarre.
I sometimes wonder how the relationship between Jake and the rest of the domestic coaching staff is…can’t be too good.

Jake also regularly state in press conferences that he does not want to just give away Springbok blazers. In that case, why all the experiments on international level?
No less than 78 people played for Rudolf Straueli’s teams in the time period he coached (2001-2003) – and I suspect White is not far from that number already…..He awarded 9 new caps in his first test as coach already.

Saw BB King in Manchester last year. Unbelievable show. In a class of his own. Master. Understand why Clapton feels subordinate to him.
2 Dec 2006, 22:35 pm
Clapton is better as an opensider.

Wow! To see BB King must have been a treat. He’s on his last tour. He’s retiring from live stuff. What a gentleman of the blues. He’s lived through the stages of dealing with the blues of life and has for so long being riding as a king of the blues, a master of the blues and what it entails as an art form that is so primal, it transforms our lives.
Clapton rides with the king… BB King.
You can’t fool the feel, and when it feels true, its real right, and squeezes tight. Its so blue and dirty that it makes clean. What medicine!

Music can strike any family at any time. Genetic, yes, but mysterious even more. Many a good musician came from a strange home and often without warning! Almost in spite of everything the gift came.

Jannie Du Plessis is a tight-head. Wian Du Preez is a loose head. Os is a loose head. CJ Van Der Linde is a tighthead.
