Perfect Paterson sinks Wales
10 Feb 2007
Chris Paterson sunk 7 from 7 penalties to give Scotland a 21-9 win over Wales at Murrayfield.
The winger was clinical and almost topped the performance with a long-range try. Scotland flank Simon Taylor was tireless in defence and was deservedly named Man of the Match.
The match however was forgettable, as both sides showed little structure in their play. Purposeless kicks and poor handling marred the game with Wales being the worst culprits.
The Dragons had just one meaningful foray Scotland’s 22 and had to settle for a treble of three pointers from Stephen Jones.
Wales coach Gareth Jenkins said midweek that a loss would place them under huge pressure after going down 19-9 in the opener.
With his worst fears realised and France and England lying in wait, Wales’ prospects of repeating their 2005 tournament win look extremely bleak.
Scotland will also have to improve significantly if they hope to recapture the title that has eluded them since 1999.
