SA’s miracle man

SA’s miracle man

Schalk Burger always knew he would return to the game after his career-threatening neck injury.

schalla_cover.jpgSpeaking in the new issue of SA Rugby magazine, on sale Wednesday, the Bok flank said he’d put his faith in his doctors, and not the media.

“Reading those articles in the press did nothing for my confidence, and I remember being very scared and nervous before the operation. But I knew I’d be all right, having spoken to a couple of doctors who had assessed my injury and assured me the operation would be a success.”

Burger also explains what he did with himself during his time away from the game, and what he wants to achieve in 2007.

Also in the new issue of SA Rugby magazine:

– New scrum laws: Ollie le Roux, Gary Botha and BJ Botha give their verdicts

– Last chance saloon: The superstars Jake can’t ignore

– NEW! World Cup experts: Corne Krige on the All Blacks, Shaun Sowerby on the Poms

– Wikus van Heerden: Why I left the Lions

– On call with Doctor Jannie du Plessis

– The rise of Lions prop Heinke van der Merwe

– Troy Flavell”s All Black ambition

– Peter Hewat’s message to the Wallaby selectors: Give me a go!

– Boks Sevens captain Jonathan Mokuena

– Naas explains why Brent Russell shouldn’t have been promised the Stormers No 10 jersey

::::THIS WEEK IN SA RUGBY MAGAZINE::::

Schalk Burger talks about his new hairstyle and how he gets that extra bounce and shine. Not known for being shy with the ladies, the ‘incredible Schalk’ talks about how easy it is to pull at Cubanas on a Saturday night after a home game.

“The worst part about my injury was that I let myself go… My hair was a mess and I stopped moisturising for a while. As a Stormers model…I mean rugby player…that is the last thing you want to do.”

Also in the new issue of SA Rugby magazine:

    – New scrum laws: Ollie le Roux, Gary Botha and BJ Botha give their new excuses for collapsing and illegal binding.

    – Last chance saloon: The superstars Jake can ignore because he’s in charge and YOU’RE NOT

    – NEW! World Cup ‘experts’ (well the one failed misserably at the WC and the other hasn’t even played at a WC but anyway): Corne Krige on the sexy All Blacks, Shaun Sowerby on the well hung Poms

    – Wikus van Heerden: Why I left the Lions and other stories of sexual harrasment.

    – On call with Doctor Jannie du Plessis, half brother of Doctor Khumalo

    – The rise (and soon to be fall) of Lions prop Heinke van der Merwe (another overrated SA prop).

    – Troy Flavell’’s All Black ambition and 72 ways to gouge a mans eyes out at the bottom of a ruck and not get caught.

    – Peter Hewat’s message to the Wallaby selectors: Give me a go….at Gregan’s ***!

    – Boks (at sixes and) Sevens captain Jonathan Mokuena. Jonothan who?

    – Naas explains why Brent Russell shouldn’t have been promised the Stormers No 10 jersey but should instead start at No 2. Also revelations about his affair with Davin Thsott (Darren Scott).

PLUS: Giant 2007 poster of Hugh Bladen in a tiger stripe g-string chugging down a litre of his favorite beverage (Gin & Tonic) before going into the commentry box to do a game (that’s how he manages to confuse Bolla and Percy…).

    Thank you Neill.
    That was really insightfull.
It told me that you are a shallow idiot with various issues to work out.
You have to mature mentally, sexualy and emotionaly.
You seem angry, mostly at yourself and your own incompetence.
But above all you are ignorant.
    Stupid stupid stupid.

    Like I said, really insightful.
    Moron.

“We have had a long, hard look at it and we have realised that the way the Super 14 is being played this year we are going to have to bulk up and pick much tighter players. We cannot have a team just made up of game-breakers because it just doesn’t work. We need to have some grafters, players who can work at setting up opportunities for the game-breakers.” Stormers’ coach Kobus van der Merwe spouts some wisdom. But surely any half-decent coach would have realised this months before the tournament started!

Speaking of Schalks injury, I was thinking it could have been a lot worse. And who knows when such a accident might occur to any of us.

Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her, “I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle.

If that ever happens, just pull the plug.”

She got up, unplugged the TV and then threw out my beer.

James Small grunts….. the guy is a tappet and a woman beater I dont give ANY credence to ANY of his opnions. And Doos van der Westhuizen can just piss off and bang that Kermit the Frog imitation wife of his… Really 100 years of tradtion that Bob Skinstad did not want to participate in??? Please just because you did it for 100 years does not make it right….

And then those critics of Bob Skinstad, just look at wat Tricky **** has done with Britz the Blitz, AJ, Botes, Kanowski. I good coach can do wonders with players! What he is doing with Bob is probably going to make jaws drop….

Imagine Schalk, Juan and Bob as our world cup loose trio!!!!!??? Each of them, at their best, is the best in the world.

Now put Ruan and Francois at 9 & 10 and we might just have the most creative and skillful team in France

The real shame within SA is the automatic selection of players like JDV when in reality he’s no better a player than any other 12 SA have had in the past 10 years! Runs straight as De Wet, won’t pass like Honibull, I mean for the alleged skill and talent that everyone raves about – I’d select Giteau, Luke McAllister, Tana Umanga, the English league bloke, BOD ahead of him in a world XV – if this is our most talented bok then we are absolutely screwed!!!!

If he is that good why aren’t the Stormers and the Bok Coaches enabling him to play in a role that highlights this alleged talent? I mean he doesn’t even run angles, it’s straight into contact and the 50/50 turnover or penalty position everytime!

I’ve had enough of “how good” the Boks are, how much talent the Boks have! Let’s face facts, select a World XV today and 1 Bok player makes the team, Victor Matfield. That’s it, no one else even comes close! We are a joke because our approach and administration are living in the 1970’s, isolation at times can be the mother of invention, but when you are reintroduced to society, not learning from those around you is the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Wake up and smell the coffee SA Rugby!

    181,

My blood is as black as any Sharks supporter BUT I reckon that the fact that Charisma wins over Class is proven with John Smit. The guy has a personality that will make Oprah humble but he is distinctly a 2nd rate hooker. Bismark outplays him on any given weekend….
