Sevens Boks light up London

The Springbok Sevens have got off to the perfect start at the London leg of the series, winning two pool games and qualifying for the Cup quarter-final.

They lost 17-14 in the final pool game to England, but just needed to avoid defeat by 16 points to qualify for the play-offs.

Paul Treu’s charges are already out of contention for a series win, but they will be determined to reel in New Zealand and secure third place on the overall standings.

The Boks easily negotiated Wales, winning 24-12 before being pushed hard by the ever improving Portugal, holding on for a 17-12 victory. The usual contenders, New Zealand and Samoa both came through their pool matches unscathed.

Fiji though were held to a 19-all draw by Russia in their opening match, but came from behind against France in their final pool match to secure a quarter-final berth.
