Forgotten fatties collide
10 Jul 2007
Former Springbok props Lawrence Sephaka and Richard Bands will face off when the Leopards host the Blue Bulls this Friday.
The Bulls have a bye this weekend as far as Currie Cup action is concerned but will feature in a mandatory friendly against the Leopards. The Potchefstroom side have recently acquired the services of Sephaka, who has been released to the Leopards from the Lions before he takes up a contract with French club Toulon.
Bands has been named as captain of the Bulls and will pack down against his former Bok team-mate. The pair held up either side of the Bok front row in 2003, but due to Bands’s spate of injuries and Sephaka’s struggle with form, they have not played together since.
Only Bands, Stefan Basson, Trompie Nontshinga, Gerrie Odendaal and James van der Walt are retained from the side who beat the Lions 25-11 last Saturday.

lawrence who?
Sephaka should take up a position in parliament with the rest of the fatcats, rather than in the front row.

Personally, I can’t wait to see Errol Tobias come off the bench.
My dad has always told me what a great player he was and I’m dying to see if this coloured chap still has what it takes.

Good see Bands back will be in the reckoning for Boks again come 2008.
Lawrence at 3?? very average
#10 Tobias had skill but was average compared to likes of Colin Beck let alone Naas back in the day.

I played with Beck and he was a supremely talented 10 – even kicked a successful dropgoal left of the uprights to beat the Maori’s in ’81 – but Tobias could have been the best of them all if he played in decent teams whilst still in his 20′s

#13 all good here my friend, although weather here in NZ is ****!
#14 u played with Beck?? I was playing at OP in 80s..Clark Ellis was another good young flyhalf
from WP at the time.

10 – Yip, forget Bobby’s comeback. This will be something. Must be nearly as old as John Daniels.

Bands and Lorry to clinch a deal before the time:
“I promise if you promise that we won’t push each other around too much in the scrums” Then we can both play full 80 min to show everybody we are fit enough for the Boks again.
Have your say
