South Africa’s finest club sides will resume their annual battle when the National Club Championship kicks off on Sunday in Stellenbosch.
Pukke defeated College Rovers in last year’s final and will be the team to match once again after their strong performances up north. They begin their title defence again Kimberley Police, the champions of the Griquas region. College Rovers are out to go one better than last year and will start their campaign against SWD club Evergreens.
The competition features the leaders from all 14 unions as well as two others invited by Saru. Four additional clubs have also been added to this year’s Plate tournament.
The eight winners on the opening day will graduate to the Cup competition and the losers will contest the Plate. The matches resume on 11 September, with the semi-finals being contested on 13 September and the final being played on 15 September.
