Double blow for Treu’s troop

Double blow for Treu’s troop

Jonathan Mokuena and Mzwandile Stick will miss the second leg of the IRB Sevens Championship in George.

Mokuena has been suspended for six weeks for shoving a referee in the recent competition in Dubai, where the Boks lost to eventual winners New Zealand in the semi-final.

South Africa’s Sevens Player if the Year Stick will also miss out this weekend due to a shoulder injury. Marius Schoeman and Kabamba Floors have replaced the duo.

The George leg starts this Friday and South Africa will begin with pool matches against Wales, Argentina and Uganda.

jeez, shoved a ref. thats not clever!

only saw a replay of the final here in nz. fiji were robbed by bad ref call. that last nz try was from a clear knock on. oh well, the kiwis cant say every call goes against them now can they :)

was great seeing fiji launch their comeback, those 2nd half tries were awesome!

fiji will come firing for redemtpion in george.

Our 7′s side will always come second until they sort out the selection thereof. Blown off the park by NZ aggression. Can’t only have thin ou’s with speed. Need some big ou’s with speed as well.

    I concur Mr Whatever

    too many “thin ou’s”

maybe he is a pimp by night??

    he have the “magic stick”??

great job this Sevens gig. Contracted to travel the world, meet heaps of women when not training and play the same sides every tournament.

    come now
these okes can play. they did really well on last years series. in last years team we had some bigger guys with pace and skills, we smashed those kiwis and fijians, samoans around a bit too :)

  • 7.whatever: Reply to this comment

Yeah, thats where I think we are falling down. We are not playing players who would get us into and win the final. Every now and again we get there, but normally we drop out in the semi’s. Means the guys who are there are not quite doing the job IMO

  • 8.Tomsta: Reply to this comment

i havent watched a lot of the sevens,,but ill say this….there are about 5 or so teams who can win it at every tournament.

nz, aussie, fiji, samoa, sa, england.

most of these teams make it to quarters and then its just ellimination time, which is tough stuff given its 7 minutes of hell.

i think its pretty good the guys make it so constistently to the semis.

  • 9.whatever: Reply to this comment

Tomsta, I also think it’s great we get there, but to get into the finals consistently we need some changes. The blokes we have will get us to the semi’s and it appears no further. Some of the players from last year who got the wins for us like Basson and Burger are not around. Not sure why? But generally if we beat Fiji and NZ it’s cause they had a bad day, not cause we have the better team……just an observation. Hope I’m proved wrong this year. I’m planning to get to HK in March so would like to see us do well.

i think paul treu should be sacked, we had a winning side 12mnths ago and since george he has managed to destroy that squad.
maybe chester should coach the sevens, that way he wouldnt be pottering around the 15s game like a nosey granny.

  • 11.greatest13gerber: Reply to this comment

    Where is Jacques Olivier??

he should be coach..great player…damm that Swerve!!

  • 12.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

    Mokuena’s very, very, very stupid.

  • 13.Tinus: Reply to this comment

    Morning all!

We need players like Kankowski, Floors, Burger, Vermaak, Pretorius, Odwa and Murruy in the 7′s team.

  • 14.Tinus: Reply to this comment

And Olivier or Chester to coach! Treu should go coach something else, selectors should go select something else!

  • 15.Koos: Reply to this comment

    More Tinus, hoe lyk dinge?

  • 16.munkiboi: Reply to this comment

tinus nice idea but 7′s is very low on SARU priority list. it comes well behind super rugby commitments which is a real shame. it is such a great way to help shape young talent.

  • 17.Tinus: Reply to this comment

Dagse Koos! Lekker man, hoe was naweek?

    munkiboi…

It is a pity, but the 7′s team should be allowed 1 or 2 players from each S14 franchise. Look at the Bulls for example. They have Spies, Wikus, Pedrie, Lobberts, Potgieter, Stegman and another 2 or 3 loosies. Send someone like Potgieter over.

  • 19.Loosehead: Reply to this comment

They should make little Luke the 7′s captain, then he would have fulfilled his extended families dream of him being captain of a Bok team.

  • 20.Tinus: Reply to this comment

Who was named man of the series? ODI, SA vs NZ?

Talking about beefing up the sevens side reminds me of the ’97 world cup 7s in Hong Kong, a tournament I had the priviledge of attending.

The Bok side consisted of players like Skinstad, Andre Venter, Chester Williams, Joost, Slaptjips.. all in their prime. Man, the feeling and emotion after beating the Kiwis (Cullen, Lomu, Rush, et al), who were the red hot favourites, in the semis was unbelievable… then we went and blew it in the finals against Fiji… pity.

Still remains the best day of rugby… a jorl of note

  • 23.Koos: Reply to this comment

    Tinues, lekker man en joune.

It was one of the Kiwis that was man of the series…name eludes me now!

    BRUMBIES

    CRUSADERS

    WARATAHS

    BLUES

    SHARKS

Will be in the top five in no particular order come end of round robin S14 2008.

…and saffas to continue their excuses when they have another dismal tournament.

Bet on the above and your money should be safe.

Gibbs was sensational last night (aus time) i watched him till he made his fifty.

I will stay awake to watch that man play…somebody must have given him extra helping of pap for breakfast yesterday.

When is SA and Aus playing each other again in the cricket?

I will let you google search it.

Aus did not trip up with a defeat so early after winning the world cup.

SA and England have the worst records after winning the RWC…..even england did not lose to the BaaBaas after winning their world cup.

    How about that?

Did you have a look at the SA team that played? Do you think the Ausies would have beaten a Baabaa team with Boks like Habana, du Preez, Matfield, Burger etc when playing with an almost “B” team?

Most of u guys are talking absolute ****! 7’s is a specialised game and these guys would probably beat any other 7’s team put together in this country. The size of team is the correct body type for the 7’s game, most teams have exactly the same body type. Nz and SA were probably the two best teams in the last tournament. If paul treu had all his players available like Aplon, bassoon, russel, burger we would beat anybody!!

Dont know. Would be interesting to see Steyn against the Ausies. We will only know how good he is after bowling to guys like Ponting, Hayden , Gillchrist etc.

Dont think we’re on the same level as the Ausies yet.

If you are open for discussion we can talk…nothing to defend.

For one thing the game plan that Jake used for this game was atrocious and probably not suited for those not experienced in the Bok set up.

A rush defence and a kicking game is for the experienced and not for the faint hearted.

Would a Bok team with matfield and the likes won it…we wont know and we cant suck an answer…why??/ becasue they did not play.

The BaaBaas had a fantastic team primarly with aussies and AB which beat SA 3games out of four and with a game plan that would not have suited the boks.
jake game plan was damage control and so a bigger scoreline was avoided yet if he had his first team…he would have had to use a different plan.

This BaaBaas side was too good…remeber these players know attacking rugby and they were the best of the ANZACS and SA only won 1 out of 4 games in the tri nations 2007.
Based on this I can only SPECULATE that the BaaBaas would still have beaten the Bok test team.

You will and many others will beg to differ…if we do then lets keep it to the difference of opinion and not get personal.

Tinus, I think Haydunce may not be around then but even so the Ozmob does appear to be in a league of their own. Having said that they have not been tested since the dpearture of Warne and McGrath, lets just wait and see.

Please point out to me where I got personal?

Let me explain to you what I meant at #35. If you took the Ausie team without Gregan, Larkham, Latham, Toquiri, Mortlock, Smith, Vickerman to play against a Baabaa team. You replace the Ausies that played on Saturday with Boks. Who do you think would have won?

No excuses here mate, Baabaas were the better team by far!

  • 48.trupisero...almalsemoerebehalwemyne!!: Reply to this comment

    Wallabie

Dont necessary agree with you, but the backline was imply awful.

We saw in the RWC that the Boks struggled against sides that would rune the ball from anywhere and our 1 on 1 tackling was poor.

As far as I am concerned the only backline player who held his own on defense was Habana, and Juan Smith did not have a bad game in the circumstances.

Muller is also not a captain’s bootlace.

SA always looks really good but something happens when they enter our shores.

how they play aginst other nation is exactly how aus would tackle these same nations but for some reason I think SA gee themselves up too much and take the aggressor persona and take their focus off the cricket…then lose in the cricket.

Smith took it upon himself to protect his team by being belligerent he did win many aussies over by taking the game to us but lost the cricket.

SA needs to come here and relax and enjoy their cricket and dont be easily wound up…they will be seriously in with a chance.
