Brilliant Butch

Butch James’s brilliant 2007 continued to soar with English club Bath.

The Springboks No 10 scored 21 points in Bath’s 26-18 win against Albi in the European Shield.

James, who has been outstanding for Bath since joining them a fortnight after the Boks won the World Cup, kicked six from six (two conversions and four penalties) and scored a try.

In European Cup action, Brent Russell made his Saracens debut in their 71-7 win against Italy’s Viadana.

Springboks centre Marius Joubert also featured in Clermont’s 37-27 win against Wasps, while Shaun Sowerby’s strong performance at No 8 for Toulouse could not prevent an away 14-9 defeat against Leicester.

Ollie le Roux also started at loosehead prop in Leinster’s 28-14 win against Edinburgh.

De Wet Barry and Gary Botha, playing for Harlequins, tasted defeat in the home team’s 17-3 loss to Bristol.

Sunday’s matches saw Ashwin Willemse and Jacques Cronje’s Biarritz go down to Glasgow 9-6 at Firhill. Perpignan might have done better had Percy Montgomery made his debut against London Irish, but the Exiles scored an important 24-16 European Cup victory at the Madejski Stadium.

I think eddie’s being given a bit too much credit over everything that is good with the boks. Although I think Jones is largely responsible for the type of ‘new’ skills and ability to look for that ‘inside channel’ Eddie only had 2 months with the boks, he couldn’t have changed the way the players play. James has always been a brilliant flyhalf but very unpolished. Remember that game, SA VS Eng, 2006 end of year tour, test 1, James produced one of the most magnificant flyhalf displays I have ever seen from a bok. Although still, butch isnt quite convincing for me as one of the best in the world.

#856, 886 – classic Skoppies. But save it for the Tri-Nations we are going to need all the help we can get. Skops JL1 has it though – you are extremely carniverous with your prose.

#861 – aaah Jinx you’re such a romantic. (I have the RR you speak of – Sammy Llanas and Kurt Neuman from BoDeans do back up vocals on “somewhere up that crazy river” – classic album).

Charo we are going to have to get better synced up to chat my friend.

I didn’t write this, but it is apt philosophy and values for this site.

The stars shone like a silver pin cushion in the dreaming sky,
And the waning moon was dipping behind the quiet observing koppie.
    It was a great night
And the fire had flames of pure insight.
    Respect is a good thing,
It draws from the roots of earthiness,
It breathes with assurance and is kind,
To honour what another man values is a good thing.
In between the smoke of the fire there was acceptance and even a joke,
    A brother thing,
    A sacred thing,
    A humour thing,
    A crazy thing,
His Blue Bull spirit and my Province spirit had earned the badge of bravery

Sheez, just seeing some of the visuals from the Led Zeppelin concert – bloody hell, I would have sold my husband to have been there…….They still rock!!!

Sitivatu seems to have a self-control problem…A la James Dalton, Japie Mulder, Matt Henjak, Lote Tequila, Doug Howlett etc etc…….Sigh – Time for the professional players to seek professional help.

I remember Zeppelin from when it weren’t so popular to be a rock fan, when Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were younger than you are now ruckaby. Back in the ‘Whole Lotta Love’, ‘Babe I’m Gonna Leave You’ days, even before ‘Stairway to Heaven’ when it all got commercially acceptable.

anyway still good to know they keeping the old flagging horse alive and kicking, ripping through their repertoire.
