Le Bleus bash sad Scots

Marc Lievremont’s tenure as France coach got off to an impressive start with a 27-6 win against Scotland at Murrayfield.

Lievremont promised a return to France’s traditional style of rugby and his new-look side, featuring four debutants, didn’t disappoint. The Tricolores ran the ball from deep inside their own half and even tapped kickable penalties – one which resulted in a try for left wing Julien Malzieu.

Scotland flyhalf Dan Parks opened the scoring with an early drop goal and his tactical kicking kept France inside their half. However, the visitors claimed the lead when right wing Vincent Clerc scored after an inside break from fullback Cedric Heymans and a pass that appeared to go forward.

Malzieu’s kick-and-chase try gave the French a 17-6 lead at half-time, and when Clerc grabbed his second soon after the break, Scotland were dead and buried.

Chris Paterson and Chris Cusiter came close to scoring in the final quarter, but it was France who were on the attack again when the final whistle blew.

Scotland – Penalty: Dan Parks. Drop goal: Parks.
France – Tries: Vincent Clerc (2), Julien Malzieu. Conversions: Jean-Baptiste Elissalde (2), David Skrela. Penalties: Damien Traille (2).

Bloody hell boys. I care not – France were awesome, sublime..yes there were mistakes, but they played so fast mistakes are inevitable.

    Tsk, tsk. Very irresponsible, Ruck.

Telling Lukey that you think he is Bok captain material just reinforces the delusional world he lives in, and strengthens his “unique” way of interacting with the rest of the rugby fraternity.

Ah well, at least he’ll provide us with loads more laughs and discussion fodder this season.

Did you ask him about them watermelons, though?

New French coach got the right ideas, coughed up plenty ball but still played exciting flair style game. Scotland on the other hand were dismal p!ss poor by comparison, expected better from them.

Long as France can make their moves stick they always play rugby the way it was designed to be played, Dusetoir, the Polish named hooker, even the new find fly half, and wings play great attack minded rugby.

  • 7.skopskiet: Reply to this comment

Fact is if it weren’t for the delusional rugby fraternity burying their oh so noble heads in the sand with regards talented and talismanic type rugby talent in this country when it actually mattered, the whole Lukey fiasco would never have become an issue at all in the first place, would just be a simple rugby related matter.

Bloody Dan Parks and Simon Webster kicking ball away every opportunity was never gonna make things easy especially when France are running everything. Paterson made an obvious difference and would of knocked those penalties over too.

Shame about De Luca’s debut, him and Cairns have been great for Edinburgh.

France were great but dunno if that style is gonna work against a team who can actually defend and tackle properly.

    lightie

that style has taken NZ out the RWC TWICE !!

  • 11.skopskiet: Reply to this comment

Its cos NZ fall for the attacking flair game, like a red rag to a bull they simply can’t resist playing France at their own game and coming out second best, if they would resort to old fashioned bulldog style SA or English rugby they might have stood a better chance.

you would think they would have learnt after 2003, but, oh well, there’s always 2011 to look forward to – 3rd time lucky?

    Where was the fight tonight?

I spoke to a few Scots supporters on my way home from the stadium and they’re upset. The Scots lacked intensity and often fell asleep, plenty of quick taps and throw-ins caught them off guard far too often.

Hoe is dit dat Chabal nie meer die Franse span maak nie?

  • 15.lightie: Reply to this comment

Having no Lamonts is gonna hurt them for the rest of the tournement. What happened to the scrum that destroyed the French in the first half? And what about those lineouts on the France 5m line, shocking stuff really. I’m glad i never went.

I hate drawing comparisons between SA rugby and SA soccer, but I see that SA finished bottom of their African Cup of Nations group. Not a single win. What happened to the days when we were close to being ranked 20th in the world by FIFA, and could rightly call ourselves one of the powerhouses of African football (we won the Afcon in 1996 FFS!).

So why is there such a big hoo-haa about the Springboks, when we’ve just won the World Cup? In fact, 2 world cups in 4 attempts. Surely, with the football World Cup to be hosted in SA approaching us rapidly, all attention should be diverted to getting our soccer into respectable shape.

But no, the Springboks come up again and again in parliament…

Do you believe that LW should be Captain or that he just will be?

  • 24.jhsmith: Reply to this comment

watson will be captain and he should be if he continues to play as well as he has in previous years.watson is the only person who keeps this site alive….just check the number of hits he gets when there is an article on him. good or bad. the argus sells 160 000 extra copies when he is on the front page getting attacked. check it out yourself.

  • 26.skopskiet: Reply to this comment

John Smit was third or fourth best hooker a couple seasons ago, even led the boks to 49-0 whitewash, who you going to proclaim should be in the team to be captain? I’m prepared to bet Watson would not have allowed a 49-0 hammering, neither would Wickus have, but both Smit and Matfield were on the field that day, and neither of them could or wanted to do sweet f’all about it. 49-0 is damn shameful in my opinion. and I’m prepared to bet neither PdV nor Watson would have smirked it off the way these other honky dory boys did.

Your hatred is truly pathetic, SS, as are your attempts to project your views onto others without any kind of insider knowledge whatsoever into the Bok squad.

    Watson is a mouthy twat.
Leave the talking for the pitch.
    Thats half his problem
    talks too much
    the other half is
    the size he lacks
    to be a real looseforward.

Wrong. The last game we played against the french we didnt play our normal attacking game.If you ask me we play better attacking rugby than the french do.
    Points NZ vs france.
    NZ 1112 points against France
    France 599 points against NZ
NZ have scored 131 tries compared to Frances 60 tries. You have to attack to score tries.

  • 31.david24: Reply to this comment

SA would have beaten this french team by around 20 pts.
    Scotland were just diabolical
