Waugh backs open market
8 Feb 2008
Waratahs captain Phil Waugh supports Robbie Deans’s desire to abandon the restriction against foreign players in Super 14 teams.
Deans admitted the competition needs an overhaul and allowing players from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand to be drafted across their respective borders would revive the tournament. Waugh was firm in his agreement.
“You want as many good players playing in the competition as you possibly can and as many good players in Australia,” Waugh told the Sydney Morning Herald. “That’s what the public want to see. They want to see top-quality players playing in a good competition.”
Waugh said he was not adverse to running out for a Kiwi or South African-based franchise.
“I think it boosts the competition. There’s certainly a place in the game for that, and this competition, the way it’s structured, has got the real potential to be one of the great entertaining tournaments of the world so the more top-class players the better.”

Princess very good. The only thing that would have made it better was if the woman was told to kill her wife like the first two!

It should suit the aus/nz teams…i dont think SA sides will be able to compete with them when it comes to player salaries etc. and general working/living conditions.

make no mistake, it should be fun and should increase the value of the S14 as a TV product.
