Shimlas savage Jo’burg

Shimlas savage Jo’burg

The Ebersohn twins starred for Shimlas as they spanked the University of Johannesburg to the tune of 54-6.

Flyhalf Sias and centre Robert cut the Jozi defence to shreds, with SA U19 fullback Wilton Pietersen also having a monumental impact. Winger Shagan Windvogel picked up a hat-trick for his superb running but it really was a great all round effort by the Free State giants.

UCT secured their first win of the competition when they thrashed Tukkies 55-24 in Cape Town. Eight tries were scored by the hosts, with Marvin Christians running in four of his own.

The Ebersohn twins are outstanding talents. Sias maybe a Bok flyhalf in a few years time.

Indeed Jinx , they are the best players I have ever seen at Craven Week. Their 10-12 combination is lethal. It’s mind boggling how Eric Sauls didn’t pick Josias, even though Robert is probably the better of the two, Josias is way above everyone afer him.

I can’t wait to see these two at S14 level.

    Rob Dylan

Nooit. You guys must jack up your own nursery.

  • 7.JL1: Reply to this comment

Maybe they want to play for England or France

I mean if SA can’t keep the best at home how will they keep this type of talent?

  • 8.robdylan: Reply to this comment

He he… any good nursery knows how to combine the best of homegrown and imported stock, jinxie. You need cross-pollination to avoid sterility. Kind of like how playing with yourself makes you go blind ;)

just checked the stats on this terrible twosome.

Nobody told me they were midgets! Robert is only 1.8 and his boetie is 2 cm shorter. Neither tips the scales at much over 80kgs!

Shagan Windvogel – what a great name for a winger!!! ;-)

I watched this game last night, and might i say, this is as close as it got to a rugby game giving me a hard on as it ever has.

Jis, these guys were superb. They are being coached by the ex Grey College coach and it shows. Quick, slick, smooth handling, solid defense.

I dont know why our school / uni boys can have skills and the S14 guys cant catch a ball.

May i say without doubt or reservation, these two kids are the most skillful SA rugby players i have ever seen in my life. Hope we dont wait for them to “get big”. Lets play them now. Look at what it did for Frans Steyn

Oh, another name to remember is PW van Vuuren the hooker. Amazing hands for a big guy. Set up three tries.

  • 15.Cheetha Champs: Reply to this comment

    And Wilton Pietersen the fullback.

Marvelous to see a tall skinny black guy have the pace and agro to run OVER people. This boy is sensational and will play Bok Rugby soon.

    Strong, fast, good kicking game

I must agree with you Cheetha Champs, I was impressed by the quality of both last week’s and this week’s matches.

Just a comment on the Sharks nursery. A more accurate description would be the scouting and contracting department (still run by Rudolph?)

Monday night rugby is brilliant, thoroughly enjoyable!
I must say, the Ebersohn`s are a class apart. Those 2 will surely be 10 and 12 for the Boks in a few years.
The kids also made the new rules work much better than the S14 “pros”. How good was the support play?

With you there Cheeta Champs – best rugby game in a long time!

  • 19.Loosehead: Reply to this comment

Fark I missed the game. At least the Freestate had one win this week.

These guys seem to love the ELV’s.

Why are the two Ebesohns not playing Vodacom Cup rugby? Later this year they might even play CC and S14 next year.

This is where contracts ruin rugby. Sometimes players might be out of form but the coaches keep playing contracted players, as the are getting paid a fotune.

At least we can thank our lucky stars that there’s a succession plan to replace Conrad Barnard and Herkie Kruger in the Cheeahs Super 14 team.

I have made the same point a couple of times on this site,

every year at craven week you see some real talent and very, I mean very good skill, especially at backline.

for some reason all that skill got lost somewhere trough the ranks. Wynand Olivier was awesome at junior level and in the u21 rwc together with habana, they run the opposition to pieces.

my only conclusion is that the coaching are better at junior level and/or the players have more freedom to play. in senior rugby they are forced to play in structures and gameplans that doesn’t neceraly(spelling??) suits their individual style.

at senior level the coaches are all (most of them) x players. at school level the coaches come trough coaching clinics and years of coaching with result to coach a craven week side or school’s first team.

how in heavens name can you appoint someone with frans record when at the same time there are people with exellent result at junior level?

  • 23.pearly: Reply to this comment

How is that UCT result? amazing. Apparently they were very unlucky to lose to Pukke, but thrashed Tukkies… What’s going on there?

  • 24.mshiniwami: Reply to this comment

The twins are superb talents no doubt..So is Wilton Pieterson…

PLEASE DO NOT STIFLE THESE BOY’S PATHS….

    GUIDANCE,MENTORING NEEDED

Last nights game was a replay of the Cheetahs VC team thrashing the Lions last week. Free state certainly know how to maximise their talent base.

Just to let y’all know, there is one chap who has done the opposite to all the oranges moving away to the Sharks etc. Jacko Jackson, from my beloved hometown the ‘valley of dreams’, the land of the Lunch Bar Maritzborough (that would be Pietermaritzburg), has moved to the town of the ‘spring of flowers’ to play for the Shimla’s. He played outside centre for them and had quite a game.

  • 27.Biggles: Reply to this comment

    Great talents those 2.
Money on Sias going to the Sharks and his boet to the Bulls in 1 or 2 seasons.

  • 28.King Cheetah: Reply to this comment

    Biggles,

Nice try, but the Cheetahs already signed them as well as Wilton Pietersen (fullback) and Coenie Oosthuizen (prop).

Frans, Ruan and Jannie were the last to be poached by the Sharks !

    They will remain Cheetahs !

The guy selected above Josias Ebersohn in the SA Schools Team was Marnitz Boschoff, who played for the Pumas against Free State at Craven Week. In their one-on-one tussle, it must be said that Boschoff was the seemingly better player. During one phase he ran straight at Ebersohn and stepped him before sprinting a further 40m. Boschoff carried a weak Pumas team. Ebersohn was given awesome ball and had awesome players around him.

But on the note of amazing Craven Week players. Nick Koster. There’s a special player. Should play SA u21 but since he’s just turned 19 he might only play u19. I suspect WP might give him a few Currie Cup games later this year…

And UCT running in 8 tries with an extremely young side against Tukkies thanks largely to the Bishops contingent. Anyone know Maties results?

  • 30.Boychee: Reply to this comment

Maties recorded a 40-24 victory over NMMU in P.E over the weekend.

Yeah Nic Koster a fine talent but word is they want to convert him to centre – however with the ELV’s he would be ideal the no. 8 considering his blistering speed of the base and sublime skill.

Look out for UCT under John Dobson – they are a skillful outfit and definitely bring a Bishops flair to their game with the likes of Koster, Ledwidge, Gagiano, Commins, Haw & Christians all in the mix.

  • 31.ziyaad: Reply to this comment

You forgot the star of the show against Pikke… Matthew Turner. Another great talent. Playing the wrong position I’m afraid. White wingers are a thing of the past…

  • 32.whatever: Reply to this comment

    Good one UCT!!

  • 33.taru: Reply to this comment

    Ey Boychee…..

I agree with you mate….. these UCT youngsters will surprise many ateams. What is going on with Nick Koster though? Where is he playing?

  • 34.Boychee: Reply to this comment

Nic is currently at the WP Rugby Institute in Stellenbosch – he will probably turn for the Province U19′s and U21′s. Think he might still be struggling with a injury though.

Ya i forgot Mathew Turner also Bishops, reminds me of Jason Robinson/Shane Williams – lightning. Watch out for him – he was in the initial squad for the SA U20′s.
