UCT fight for final venue

UCT fight for final venue

Ikeys are not prepared to play the inaugural Varsity Cup final against Maties in Stellenbosch.

The University of Cape Town, who were ranked seventh before the tournament began, finished top of the log ahead of arch-rivals Stellenbosch University. But because the floodlights at UCT aren’t good enough for a televised night match, the organisers decided before the semi-finals to hold the final at the Danie Craven Stadium. UCT then beat Pukke 32-31 in the first semi-final, before Maties edged Tukkies 47-44.

Ikeys on Monday decided they would rather play the final under lights at Newlands, which is just down the road from their university. WP MD Rob Wagner said he was happy to throw the gates open, only for the Varsity Cup organisers to insist that the game be played on a campus.

While the decider is now officially taking place in Stellenbosch next Monday at 6.45pm, Ikeys are keen to play at UCT at 2:30pm, with the game televised (delayed) at 6.45pm on SuperSport.

“I feel very sorry for Ikeys who topped the log and deserve to play the final at home,” former WP flyhalf Gareth Wright, who has played for UCT in recent years, told keo.co.za. “Would the Stormers play a home Super 14 final at Loftus? Of course not. I don’t see why they can play a Varsity Cup semi-final at 2:30pm but not a final. Maties should come to UCT and try to win the final fair and square.”

UCT is the only Ivy League University in all of S.A.the equivalent of Oxford, Cambridge and also such as U Penn.,Harvard etc.
The Ivy League concept is that all your home games are played on Campus period.

And this Ikey says that PJ Koster and his fellow band of Ikeys play this game in the closest shadow of that great granite god, Table Mountain. Of course Ikeys to win even though that log already says this game is redundant as they are the best by at least 5 or so points.

And for this game I am coming in from outer space where I have just celebrated my 27th anniversary on March 22. Although you earthlings are such a sad, pathetic bunch, esp. those of you of privilege on the southern tip of the continent of the origin of life(Africa), I will still grace you with my presence but only briefly as I cannot trust you. You tried to kill me during my last visit.

We love you. Arcturians, Pleiadians and Sirians are most welcome. We have much to learn from your advanced wisdom. But those frigging Greys from Zeta Riticulae are dark and f#cking evil.

We are living in interesting times ET and things are poised for more ET visits and the raising of consciousness on planet Earth.

Send regards to Alcyone, Sterope, Taygete, Maia, Celaeno, Electra and Merope. ( The stars that make up the 7 Sisters or the Pleiades.

Also send love to…Pleione and Atlas ( seen as the Mother and Father of the 7 Sisters).

Nice that you like rugby. Ikey supporter too. Niiice one…

Catch you at the Inter-Varsity or for a groove in the Andromeda galaxy.

    Over…and out…

Jinx, you’re hilarious and knowledgeble too which is always a bonus for you earthlings as too many(as you have seen on this site)are too dull and dumb.I note too we’re on the same side of the divide when it comes to UCT and WP/Stormers. I’ll give you a special rh index finger acknowledgement. I also love association football and am presently watching this titanic battle between Arsenal and Liverpool, but I am a Leeds United supporter.
Please never forget that the innocence of the youthful have the solutions to your worst earthly problems but you must be able first to define these problems.

    Jinx,

What is it with the Ikeys and the **** they smoke?

By the way, I answered you on a previous Varsity Cup thread. I was also at the 1976 Intervarsity played at Newlands in the rain. Sterling stuff. The flyhalf that day wasn’t Bob Bolus, by the way, it was Tim Brukman. I was firmly in the Ikey corner that day, but with two Matie kids at the moment, have to back the wynsoppers.

Compromise: Play it at the Danie Craven, but give Ikeys choice of seating arrangements viz. they can take the main stand – send the Maties to the open side. Either way, the party’s on.

Can’t help but feel that the Ikeys deserve to take it, though, the way they have played. Maties have definitely played some dinosaur rugby during the tournament.

I am a starseed, indigo adult…no need to be goofed my friend. I did that a long time ago.

Yes, I was not sure if Bob Bolus played. Noew that you mentioned Tim Brukman it all came to me.

    Good stuff.

I am a Liverpool supporter. It was 1-1 when I last checked.

    I’m an ex-Ikey. 1978-1980.

“Please never forget that the innocence of the youthful have the solutions to your worst earthly problems but you must be able first to define these problems.” ET

I agree, so true. Also from the healing of one’s inner child the miracles return. I’ve walked a long path and now play in joy and sparkle in my life.

I’m very tuned in to the Pleiades. I love the stars in a powerful way. Did you know that Alcyone(in the Pleiades) is the Great Central Sun to even our weeny-teeny sun. There sure is a bigger picture and Bob Mugabe actually is just like us…a little speck in space. Hehehe. Sadly he thought he created the whole show. Ooops, how he slipped on a banana peel.

There was a blogger named UFO who also had some wonderful insights and a sense of adventure. I wonder where he is. No doubt zooming around in his Mothership and hanging out at Alpha Centuari or Rigel. Hehehe.

    Take care ET boetie.

The annual intervarsity match between UCT and Maties was always played at Newlands when it was UCT’s turn to host it. I don’t see what the problem is now?

  • 110.FoxAche: Reply to this comment

I recently spoke to one of the current Maties players, and he thought Newlands was a great idea!

Coetzenberg or Newlands would do. No matter what time of day they play it at UCT, it would never work. They just don’t have the facilities to host it (seating, parking, drainage etc.)

I recall watching an Intervarsity some years ago in Stellenbosch. The Ikeys supporters’ buses had arrived after an almighty pub-crawl. First stop after leaving UCT was, I believe, the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay. I see no reason for not having a kyk-weer.

  • 111.Jinx da Lynx: Reply to this comment

Have it at Newlands NOT Stellenbosch.

Newlands would be a jol. Stellenbosch would be too much of a home ground advantage to Maties which they don’t deserve.

    Ikeys must do it.

As Allan Border used to say…wear them down, give them nothing.

  • 112.CoachPete: Reply to this comment

Agreed, why should maties have the home advantage.
Newlands is neutral, and will draw a bigger crowd.

If the four non-white 1970 All Blacks could be “honorary whites”, and Fluke Watson can be declared an “honorary black” by premier Rasool, then Newlands can be declared an “honorary extension of the UCT campus” for purposes of the final.

Nee man okes, Newlands se gees is KAK indien die stadion nie ten minste half vol is nie, DC het ‘n baie lekkerder gees.
