Third time lucky for Boks

Third time lucky for Boks

The Springbok Sevens team beat New Zealand 15-7 in the Cup Final of the Adelaide tournament.

This was the third successive time the two teams have met in the final, and the victory meant the Springboks broke the All Blacks’ 47-match winning streak. The Springboks’ extra-time semi-final win over Samoa was expected to have a negative effect on the players in the final, but they came out storming to score two tries in the opening five minutes.

Robert Ebersohn, the 19-year-old recruit playing in his first year of international Sevens, scored his sixth try of the competition when he ran 50 metres to out-sprint the cover defence to give the Boks a 5-0 lead. Man of the Tournament Fabian Juries scored another great counter-attacking try to extend the lead going into the shed.

The South Africans exhibited a committed and aggressive defence throughout the match which rattled the All Blacks, forcing them into uncharacteristic errors. However a Victor Vito score early in the second stanza would have had South African coach Paul Treu worried as the Kiwis narrowed the lead to three.

But Juries got his second try to seal the Springboks’ first Cup title since December 2006 in Dubai.

203,205 206,209 etc., and your ilk You sad hypocritical, pretentious non-racist ‘wannabes’ you cannot tolerate being exposed for your lack of knowledge simply about rugby matters and think you can fool people with your false words which turn to threats when you behave like a pack of African dogs. I am the mirror and you (pl.) cannot accept your distorted conservative , hypocritical faces in that mirror. So you slander and insult when I am off and I address your distortions mostly in your presence and you cannot handle that since I am smarter than you can handle. Hence you resort to revealing your defective language and comprehension skills and do not address a single opposing viewor thought but you still spew your garbage.
I am still waiting for a single simple rugby answer to the qestions above like your ‘Bok #10 or any other.

    The people lay scattered
    Shot down by hurt
    Swords were crossed
    And the goodness burnt

    Hell roamed senseless
    The smoke was thick
    Words scarred the landscape
    Blood fire was sick

    Brother against brother
    Pain against pain
    The night cut hearts
    As it dimmed the flame

    I walked through the zone
    Of tangled old ghosts
    That cried for a sunrise
In the ash of old posts

    Polluted poisoned waters
    Dis-ease dragging its feet
    Anger drew its pistols
    Eyes struggled to speak peace

    They just shoot off projections
    The sins of the fathers
As the dark swamp longs to flow
    And release like a river

All I can say at one minute to midnight
Bury the hatchet for once and for all
    Lay down your weapons
    Break down your walls

UUHHMMM! What’s going on here? A bit presumptious calling yourself Mr Know-it-all, isn’t it? But I guess we all have a point to drive home.

Heard on the radio how lethargic the Kiwi team were. They were dragging their feet and was always that mtr too slow to the point of brkdwn. And how its not like them at all. Almost as pathetic as the death threats issued to Barnes in Oct.

More to the truth is that it is a mental thing. Kiwi rugby players are a bunch of sissies. Once you get in their faces and are prepared to stay there, they fold. Like a deck of cards and regular like clockwork. The 7′s showed it last nite, France has showed it twice in WC’s, Boks has showed it on occassion. So has the Sharks, Stormers, Bulls Force and Waratahs. It will take them out of the game for about 50-60 minutes and if you are any good with ball in hand, the game should be over by then. Normaly the momentum in the game will shift at that point and if they are still in touch, look out. But the way to beat them is to get in their faces and pressurise them for at least the whole of the 1st hlf.

Hope PdV is getting this. Should take him a long way towards achieving the ‘unthinkable’. Now, does that not show I know a lot of the game!

    ET – I just read 212.

Ps make a posting – at you earliest convenience – that will display your deep knowlegde of rugby. Ps refrain from attacking others while doing so, as it will merely distract and prevent folks from identifying that deep knowledge you possess.

Based on what I’ve read to now, the vast majority of folks here ARE in fact smarter than you, so either that’s an accurate assessment, or you have some perception issues.

O, and by the way, I am a white south african, living abroad. More liberal than Obama, with more so-called non-white friends than you have teeth. I guess I just blew your little favorite theory out the water.

    Have a great night, sir.

    Hi Coach
Did you see the game at all?
Just asking as did the Kiwis have an off day or did the Boks have a great game.
I am hoping the Boks just had a good game and gave it to us

  • 228.CoachPete: Reply to this comment

Hurricane. You know Setanta sports had it advetised, but showed Aussie rules, so did not see it. I read that your guys made some errors, but you can only play the way your opposition allows you to play, so was possibly more of a good effort by boks.

  • 229.BokiNZ: Reply to this comment

They actualy did make some uncharacteristic errors. Never saw them drop that many balls- some evn with tryline beckoning. It could’ve been pressure cause Boks put heaps on them but could’ve been complacency too. Hell, like you said, could even have been ‘Suzie’. I will not put my money on them getting the title as yet. If Boks stick to this approach in future might pay dividends. Fiji also back with a bang. Maybe Serevi’s hand being tipped during the wk got the ’3rd force’ out of the way. You guys saw the points table? Dominated by SH teams. First 6 teams actualy.

  • 230.BokiNZ: Reply to this comment

No forgot Kenya. So its the first 7. NZ, SA, Fiji, Samoa, Aus, Arg and Kenya. Only then comes ENG and Wales. Wonder what BH makes of that?

  • 231.Hurricane: Reply to this comment

BH went missing just after Scotland gave England a hiding.
But i have seen enough posts from BH to know what he would have said.
#1: The forwards didnt turn up.
    #2: England didnt turn up
#3: To many Islanders in the NZ team.
#4: It was to muggy, wet or even fine.
#5: England dont care about sevens anyways.

I could go on to #100 very easily but you get the idea

    Morning all rugby gurus!

    Good one for the ’7′s.
Ebersohn should be a 15 Springbok in the next year or two, I think.

  • 233.BokiNZ: Reply to this comment

    Hey Pieta
At least you said it and I’m not a self-proclaimed guru as some of the above.

That laaitie is magic. After watching their semi, I expected another Kiwi thrashing in the final but he gave us the start we needed. From there, the Kiwi’s were on the backfoot all the way!

  • 234.Pietman: Reply to this comment

    BokinOz
I saw the Ebersohn twins at the Craven Week last year (on KuduClub). They, with that Peterson fullback who know plays for Maties, were almost singularly responsible for thrashing WP 50-3 in the final!
Watch out for Peterson as well, he is the new JPP of SA rugby.

When a white S.African(and there is nothing by the way about it that’s why I called you an ameri. copycat)has to claim being liberal and ,in addition, shout from the rooftops ‘ with more so-called non-white friends than you have……’ then you really have to be desperate, hypocritical and now a serious closet supporter of backward conservative era our country has been forced to leave behind out of amongst many other things, shame.

  • 236.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

And if you’re not a white and you’re a dreamer, you imagine that a bunch of no-goods in the old SARU might ever have been good enough to be Boks. Just because they were biggish-looking fish in a tiny cabbage-patch of a pond. And their story grows taller and taller with every exaggerated re-telling.

  • 237.Cheetha Champs: Reply to this comment

What sensational rugby. That Kiwi side is superb lets face it, but our boys made us so proud.

As Niel Powell said afterwards, you show your character in your defense and that is what these guys did. They tackled like demons, and looked red hot on defense.

Ebherson was SENSATIONAL again. Breaking three KZ tackles, and sprinting into the corner? 6 months ago he was in a school uniform !

Renfred Dazel was also marvelous. He is a really smart player who has bulked up nicely.

all i can say is WELL DONE BOYS !!

Ps – Juries is now a Free Stater, so is Ebherson, and Powell is a born and bread Bloem boy. ALLES IN DIE KOL AS DIE CHEETAH HOL :)

    239 Cheetha Champs,

Cheers. The idiot NZ interviewer told Yates “good luck for your preperation for the next round of sevens” …. Yates said thanks

Eberhson is a special talent no doubt about that. But lets not jump the gun.

Earl Rose was the best Craven player I’ve ever seen,a superstar in waiting…

    Where is he now?

    Just bringing sum perspective..

PS.Fabian Juries is a freak sevens athlete,he missed nearly 2 yrs of the scene but he is still in the top 3 try scorers of ALL TIME…He’s only 25yrs old…

He’s Serevi to SA.Ranfred Dazzel is another making a name for himself.

#196 You cannot compare 8 years of dominance in IRB World sevens series rugby to a few weeks in France as “like we rule world cup rugby” thats quite funny on how you believe they are the same. But I must admit the South African teams are playing some excellent rugby and are alot more competitive than in the pass I guess being World Champions has had a trickle down affect to the lower graded teams. But then you guys do have 200,000 registered senior men rugby players compared to NZ 21,000.

  • 244.mshiniwami: Reply to this comment

    marvinb

If Im not mistaken France have more pro player than SA(Top 14,second division etc)

They still dont have our record

SA’s population is 47 million-so will would naturally hav more

  • 245.BarryDeWet: Reply to this comment

Mentally NZ was never in this tourno. After winning HK and having already clinched the IRB 7′s.How was GT going to motivate them.Good on SA for winning in Adelaide. What SA 7′s need to do is take the play out wide and not confront NZ physically, when you do that the likes of Forbes,Cocker and Yates will keep 2 defenders busy leaving Vito and some of the other NZ speedsters one on one with SA’s smaller backs.

  • 246.marvinb: Reply to this comment

#244 I wasnt comparing France I was comparing NZ to South Africa in the sense of what #196 stated have a look. And yes South Africa are strong in Rugby but what I am saying is they should be strong its their national sport and with France it isnt.I admire Bok rugby but Im a Kiwi so I support my little country because we are always outnumbered.
