Third time lucky for Boks

The Springbok Sevens team beat New Zealand 15-7 in the Cup Final of the Adelaide tournament.

This was the third successive time the two teams have met in the final, and the victory meant the Springboks broke the All Blacks’ 47-match winning streak. The Springboks’ extra-time semi-final win over Samoa was expected to have a negative effect on the players in the final, but they came out storming to score two tries in the opening five minutes.

Robert Ebersohn, the 19-year-old recruit playing in his first year of international Sevens, scored his sixth try of the competition when he ran 50 metres to out-sprint the cover defence to give the Boks a 5-0 lead. Man of the Tournament Fabian Juries scored another great counter-attacking try to extend the lead going into the shed.

The South Africans exhibited a committed and aggressive defence throughout the match which rattled the All Blacks, forcing them into uncharacteristic errors. However a Victor Vito score early in the second stanza would have had South African coach Paul Treu worried as the Kiwis narrowed the lead to three.

But Juries got his second try to seal the Springboks’ first Cup title since December 2006 in Dubai.

    i felt the ref was wrong on saturday penalising beast for scruming up ???
    not sure if i am wrong but i felt the canes tighthead was slipping his bind and scrumming inwards ???

Or even more damning how many persons of diversity were there when any or all of you were at high school?

    Hey guy, if you want to discuss it in a civil manner and not attack someone, I would be happy too.
    Basically Obama’s supported the Pastor for years, and only when his racist and anti American comments are pointed out to him, does he then distance himself from the pastor. Shows poor judgement. Not just my opinion but many others, and may hurt his chances if he wins nomination for Democrats and runs against Mc Cain.
    I never said Obama was a racist, I said he supported one, and may hurt his chances.

    Pity Sharks could not hold off for the win against Canes. Canes seem to think they should have had a penalty try at the end.

    pete i can show you so much in the game where the sharks got the bad calls from the ref

    also stefans try was a try as he got a part of his hand on the ball whilst it was on the ground

    according to new laws thats a try , you do not have to put downward pressure

    but in saying that the canes also got bad calls
    the rest is history
    and yes i agree draw prolly fair result

    pete i felt the sharks looked damn good in the game , specially the first half

    infact if the ref didnt slow us down with his bad calls on the scrums we would have whipped them

    beast had the better of their tighthead , and although i aint 100%sure i felt beast was blown up wrongly

    now theres a gentleman,
    beast is a good friend and awesome guy
    very down to earth fella

    Yeah and the beast playing with other good players around him he seems to get better every game, and could be in bok squad. (if not still a zim national)
