Taione’s ban still six

Sharks flanker Epi Taione’s appeal against a six-week ban for a head-butt has been dismissed.

Taione was represented by Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl and commercial manager Rudolf Straeuli but their efforts to get the suspension reduced were fruitless. Taione will still be out for six weeks from the date of the offence, meaning he will only be available if the Sharks reach the play-offs.

The Sharks appealed on the basis that the six-week suspension was too harsh, that Taione should have been cited for dangerous charging (which carries a lesser penalty), and that the act was not intentional.

However, head of the appeal committee, Chris Morris, stated that after weighing up all the evidence and submissions, the committee found the initial judgement of six weeks regarding the charge as correct.

    These committees are inconsistent.
When the Samoans were commiting all kinds of fouls on the Boks during the wc, none of them received censure.

Damn unfair if you ask me. JP “dumbass” Nel gets a card almost every game and no big bans. If they ban him though that would be a positive for the Bulls.

    There is no justice…

That’s how they speak down there in NZ. If you’re in Oz, everything has an ‘o’ at the end.

Why did nothing happen to the Blues’ lock when he puched one of the Stormers this year. No card, no hearing? But poor Skalk”Kaart” Burger gets sent of for what?

I think it’s a bit harsh. You can spear tackle someone and nearly break their neck and get off with a lighter punishment. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency. I think he was stupid and has not repaid the Sharks for the faith they put in him, but six weeks, come on!!!!!!!!!!!

S14 will not gain credibiity until there is one citing commission only. This should be represented by 1 SA, 1 Oz & 1 Kiwi rep & perhaps one additional person (arbitrator) perhaps an ex ref or someone who knows the rules inside out.

All citings should take place via video confrence with a record of how & why the result was atained being published after each sitting. This is the only way every one of the nations will be calling foul at some point in the season.

    Rusdog,

Yes, six weeks is not fair, it should have been 12 weeks.

  • 30.Rognvald: Reply to this comment

I am fiercely opposed to foul play but also thought there might be a case for leniency. That was before I found out that four of the six weeks banning related to an existing suspended banning.
That is to say he only got two weeks for the current offence. That is sufficiently lenient.
