Boucher blasts Mumbai

South Africans Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis secured victory for the Bangalore Royal Challengers with a 55-run partnership on Sunday.

Set an imposing 166 to win, Bangalore were struggling at 106-4 with only six-and-a-half overs remaining. But Boucher’s arrival initiated a fightback. The Proteas wicketkeeper smashed four 4s and two sixes in a 19-ball knock of 39*.

Kallis was more circumspect, but hit one big six over the bowler’s head. His contribution of 25 off 24 deliveries was just as valuable to a side in need of an anchor. While Boucher stole the show with his dazzling strokeplay, Kallis held the innings together.

This result was Bangalore’s first win after Friday’s loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Mumbai Indians – 165-6 in 20 overs
Robin Uthappa 48, Sanath Jayasuria 29, Shaun Pollock 28, Zaheer Khan 2-17.
Bangalore Royal Challengers – 166-5 in 19.4 overs
Mark Boucher 39 *, Rahul Dravid 32, Jacques Kallis 25.
BRC won by five wickets

    Kallis “circumspect”?

Try “slow”. A strike rate of 100 is barely adequate in 20/20. Over 150 is what you need.

#2 TheTackler: I think you are gonna have to get laid in 2008, Tackler. That is the only way you will be able to get all the frrustration and negativity out of your system.

If the wife is unwilling, you might find another desperate ***** at the local pet shop.

Kallis is a magnificent test batsman and a very competent bowler too. A legend, in fact. But he’s a complete mug at pyjama cricket. Sloth-like at the crease.

Tackler, first it was Kallis would never be able to reach a 75 S/R in a 20-20, now a match-winning 100+ is not enough? What happens when he plays a 150+ innings? Where will you be?

He holds the record for the fastest ever Test 50 remember. You know nothing, lol.

Polly bowled his 4 overs giving away nothing…and blasted the ball all over the park. How could they not let him stay in the Limited overs game in SA for his experience I cannot ******* understand….

20/20 needs a SR of 150-plus for you to be a 20/20 cricketing legend.

Hell will freeze over before Kallis gets that SR combined with a decent 50+ total, let alone a century.

    Cricket goes pink:

Members at the traditional home of cricket were treated to the sight of a fluorescent pink ball being smashed across the outfield when the MCC beat Scotland in a one-day match at Lord’s on Monday.

The pink ball was being used as an experiment to see if it retained its visibility longer than the white version that has become established in one-day games.

The MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club), guardians of the laws of the game, will study feedback from the trial and may consider using a pink ball in county fixtures and one-day internationals if the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) agrees.

“MCC were tasked with finding a white ball that lasts the course,” the club’s head of cricket John Stephenson told the BBC. “Kookaburra presented me with a luminous pink ball and I thought it had potential.

“We decided to play various research games this summer and this is the start of it. At the end of the summer we’ll draw some conclusions which I will report to the ECB.”

Lord’s also broke with tradition by staging its first floodlit match last year. Now pink balls could become a regular feature judging by the reaction of some players.

“The first five or ten overs in the field it was a bit strange, a bit surreal, but after that it was no problem,” said former Kent and England spinner Min Patel.

“The ball didn’t behave any differently, it didn’t react any differently, and if anything it was a lot easier to pick up in the deep when you’re fielding.

“Having played with it I don’t see any reason why it won’t be used in international cricket.”
