Jouba jols for Clermont
20 Apr 2008
Marius Joubert was irrepressible for French Top 14 side Clermont in their 23-11 win over Toulouse.
The victory at the Stade Ernest-Wallon in Toulouse takes Clermont to the top of the log, five points clear of the Toulouse.
Joubert, who by all accounts has had an outstanding season with Clermont, continued that good form, breaking the defensive line thrice and proving impenetrable on defence.
Springbok captain John Smith was solid for Clermont, while Toulouse’s South African contingent of Shaun Sowerby and Daan Human impressed as well. Sowerby was injured late in the game forcing him to be replaced but the most significant injury blow for Toulouse came when France winger Vincent Clerc was stretchered off with what has been diagnosed as ruptured knee ligaments.
Clerc collapsed without being touched and television replays show his knee moving out of socket just before he fell. He is expected to be out for at least six months.
In other matches, Perpignan’s Percy Montgomery kicked 4 from 6 in difficult conditions to play his part in a 38-13 win over Bayonne. The victory elevates Perpignan to fourth place on the table. Gerhard Vosloo’s Castres came from behind to beat Bourgoin 14-12, keeping them in the hunt for a play-off place.

*Yawn” he wasn’t only kak at WP he was kak at the Cheetahs as well just because he is playing well in Europe (which let’s face despite the money there it still doesn’t compare to the pace or intensity of S14) doesn’t mean he should be back in the bok team. People are so quick to point out Percy as a raging success well what about Andre Snyman, Jaco van der Westhuiyzen, hell even after Breyton Paulse came back from Clermont he was never the same player.
Marius has a bad attitude he is one of the most selfish players I have seen (they are called winger Marius, use them once in awhile) I have lost count of the numbers of trys he has blown.
At the moment JDV and Bobo have been great and I see no reason why they shouldn’t be retained if Fourie isn’t right, after that there is still Murray and Olivier. (yes he isn’t great but he gets the job done)
