If you allow players/captains to demand TMO verdicts, there should be a rule that if you’ve wrongly disputed THREE referee decisions, you get a man sin-binned for 10 minutes for wasting everyone’s time.

That way you’ll stop teams for wanting “second opinions from the TMO” on every ref’s call, but really just to give the unfit forwards a breather.

“Vexatious litigation” the legal-beagles call it.

It bears repetition – The technology should be employed to assist referees and not to crucify them.
It seems to me to be decidedly stupid to point out the errors of refereeing (with hindsight” rather than to provide less flawed decisions.

Good article,

I would imagine that rugby is the world’s foremost sport when it comes to the so called ‘Referees interpretation’.
Far too many incorect calls ar going on and I don’t think it’s particlarly because of biased refs. Trying to keep your eyes on what 30 players are up to is impossible for one person.

Very simple, as a ref I would like to see the yellow card reduced to 5 minutes in the game as opposed to the current 10. I think that a lot of refs would dish out a yellow card during the game if the sanction was shorter.

They’ll have to give SA team managers more than just 3 go’s to challenge the ref. Imagine in the sharks game against the brumbies they challenged that idiot ref 3 times and all 3 times they won the challenge, and in the second half you’ll still get 17 penalties against them and only 1 for them (that was the acual 2nd half stat).

Completely disagree with you grater. Game has moved on and so has technology, lets embrace it now and stop delaying the inevitable.

This will just go further towards ensuring that justice prevails and that the team which deserves to win will do so.

In twenty years we may have refereeless games, it doesn’t matter, as long as the right calls are made, everyone will be happy.

Hell – the game will get like cricket? Personally I think they should do away with TMO’s all together – then we will have more to talk about and walk away bitching “we was robbed” – call me old fasioned but I prefered the old days with the old rules and lots of lineouts!
