English duo won’t tour

Wing Paul Sackey and centre Dan Hipkiss have been ruled out of England’s tour of New Zealand.

Sackey has an ongoing knee injury and will undergo rehabilitation instead of touring, while Hipkiss fractured his cheekbone in Leicester’s Premiership final defeat against Wasps. The two are replaced by Tom Varndell and Dominic Waldouck respectively.

Tour manager Rob Andrew told the BBC: “On behalf of the squad, I would like to wish Paul and Dan speedy recoveries from their injuries. Both Dominic and Tom are excellent players, and I look forward to working with them over the next three weeks.”

The English backline has already lost flyhalves Jonny Wilkinson and Danny Cipriani for the tour, and these further omissions will hamper their quest for victory in the two Tests. England play the All Blacks on 14 and 21 June.

Given the performance that was put in against a very week Barbarians side yesterday (England 17 Barbarians 14), I’m surprised England are bothering touring at all. NZ must be licking its lips…

I just hope England can beat the Abs up a bit in the rucks etc and put in some heavy tackles to make our job easier come the Tri-Nations

England were pretty ordinary all things considered.
Every ten years they spring a surprise win. , thats somewhere in the vicinity of 2013 , if things stay the way they have been,England will graft another win over the Black.
Its only 2008 I dont know what we were getting worked up about.
The media know its a done deal so they talk up every little point to ensure that the paying public dont realise that the Emperor had no clothes.
    England extremely disappointing.
Fun to watch Carter,Nonuu etc have a run.
The Poms certainly haven’t lost the art of the niggle and the ruck. They just have never been as comfortable as other nations like NZ with ball in hand in space. Its a real curse for them.
Englands only chance is to turn it into a street brawl; where the wily operator lives, slowing the play down, making big D and the flyhalf controlling territory through a strong kicking game.
To their credit when they do that style well as in 2003 they do take it to another level.
Unfortunately this team had neither the wit nor the wisdom to really test an All Black team at home.
