Fighting Venter to inspire Boks

Fighting Venter to inspire Boks

Former Bok flanker Andre Venter will present the matchday 22 with their Springbok jerseys on Friday.

The Free State hardman performed this duty ahead of last year’s Test season opener against England. The Boks won 58-10 and both John Smit and Jake White lauded Venter’s simple yet powerful message the day before the match.

Bok coach Peter de Villiers was just as thrilled to have Venter accepting the invitation. After 66 Tests for the Boks Venter was confined to a wheelchair in 2006 due to a crippling virus. Despite his disability, he still manages to inspire so many.

“Andre was the obvious choice to present the jerseys to the guys,” said De Villiers. “We are very honoured that he accepted our invitation.

“He was the model Springbok during his career, and his bravery and courage in dealing with the tough cards life has dealt him since his retirement serve as inspiration to us all.

“I could think of no-one better to launch our four-year journey than him.”

#47 RugbyStudent: Ask the Bulls that, not me…. I was begging for Mangweni’s inclusion as well.

I was hoping to high hell that the Bulls would have used Heinie Adams more as well and lamented the fact that quality like him should play in an off-form Fourie du Preez’s shadow….

Merit, my dear fellow, not colour, that is the only correct measure……… form any viewpoint……

Now, with the Bokke, the same questions are asked…. why Bolla in stead of Kokkerot… why not Barrit / Walter Venter in stead of AD Jacobs….

It’s about what is right and wrong, not about what’s politically correct or which Province the coach happens to like.

………. and yeah, you’re a racist swine, it’s clear from your posts !

Oh, and by the way….Snorre WILL BE REMEMBERED for the Wales Test, should his Team be the 1 st ever Bokke team to lose to Wales at home…. that you can be freegin sure of……..

Andre Venter really was a true rugby great and, by all measures, Juan Smith is turning into a player of the same mould.

A tough, uncompromising flank that does all the hard work and needs none of the limelight. Smith will go down as a legend in years to come. He is a vital part of our loose trio. I would say even as much as Schalk.

If there are 2 loosies of yesteryear that I miss……… it could only be the following 2:

    Andre Venter
    Ruben Kruger

  • 56.TheArchitect: Reply to this comment

There is nothing quite like that grafter loosie that you never see, but gets in such a huge workload. Venter and Kruger are perfect examples.

It’s interesting as they both played for successful spring bok teams. I can’t think of another post-isolation coach who identified a really good blindside flank and stuck with him. Maybe someone can help me out there..

What ‘cerebral’ component are you referring to when you cannot even comprehend “up to 3 teams”. You might need a micrscope to actually see it to measure it. Which part of ‘up to 3′ can you not understand. If anything far too many of bloggers deliberately distort to bolster their weak, perverted points far too often and that can surely be psychologically measured.

Just to make a point on this argument. Stating that up to 3 teams will make the semis is pretty pointless as no teams could make it and you would still be right. What would be the point of making that statement?

In any event, all that counts is who did make it. Nobody remembers who came fourth, let alone fifth or sixth.

Someone like you only supports a PdeV with a knbife in your hand hidden behind your back just waiting to plunge it into the body. I will not be surprised if you actually do not wish that the game is lost despite the seeming pain you may temporarily suffer. With supporters like you especially, Div. needs no enemies.

To wear a Bok 6,7 or 8 you have to be special. We produce outstanding big fast Loosies by the Dozen. Another reason we struggle for balance sometimes.

To be rememberd as a great among greats is special. Venter, Kruger and Teichman were fantastic. Ruben Kruger was our best player on the field in the 1995 world cup.

Wait till you see Keo’s article on IOL today. Then you will REALLY flip your lids.

He absolutely rips Piet Snor apart for his foot in mouth escapades in the last few weeks. Don’t get me wrong, Keo, being his liberal self still urges everyone to back Piet Snor, but boy was it nice to see discord in the camp of the proverbial enemy when I read that article.

Don’t worry, however. As is Keo’s pattern, he will rip Piet Snor apart for a while, meet up with him mid-way through his term, kiss and make up, and then get the rights to the Piet Snor-biography.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

No-one in Bok History has made as many damaging statements as White Tacitus. The final straw was watching him on tv licking bottom for the English job, not realising that Woodward had long since lost favour by going over to the sport of the anti-******, and then being spat out their.

PDV is doing fine. He should just shave.

    #65 voshd:

You won’t find me disagreeing with that. White said so many stupid things that he is way ahead of De Villiers in that respect. But then, White had four years to build up his lead. Piet Snor has only had a couple of months, but he seems to be catching up real fast.

People like even Keo have their own hidden agendas and constantly steal ideas off the blogs to curry favour with and /or placate many different groups of peolple on the blogs and elsewhere. So I am not surprised. I saw the headline but choose not to read it. Will probably do so now as you have stimulated my inquisitiveness.

#59 ET: I had the same knife behind my back against Jake when he was stubborn and had foot in mouth disease….. yet he came good in the end and hopefully it partly had something to do with the critisism he received on the way.

In the end Jake delivered the WC Trophy, something I’ll always be grateful for.

Who on this blog would ever forget my posts about “Jake the Snake” when he was off line during 2006 and early 2007?

That same knife was being sharpened against Frans Ludeke this season as well…… and the jury is still out whether my “knife” will be used to help end his tenure at the Bulls……. the last 4 matched has bought him a bit of a reprieve for now.

Look man, no coach is perfect and every coach needs to be kept grounded, so critisism is fair…….. and if all goes to plan then Peter Snorre will learn from the critisism and adapt in a positive manner.

One thing you must NEVER expect from old grootblousmile is that he will accept mediocrity……… NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRR !

I’m behind Peter Snorre, will assess him carefully and start judging / praising him during the Tri Nations………. accept it or get lost !

  • 69.voshd: Reply to this comment

    Read Keos Article. Oh Dear.
How would the Boks have done without Eddie Jones? The World Cup should not stop us from being critical about Whites mistakes. And their were many. If you believe White was some kind of saint I for one do not. De Villiers does not like White, so what. I hasten to add that White when told that he briefly mentioned PDV in his book replied by saying, ‘Oh did I? I shouldn’t have…’

  • 70.voshd: Reply to this comment

When you are a public figure public judgement comes with the territory. PDV will get knocked down or knifed when he loses just as every single one before him has.

It’s the Watson issue that divides them, I reckon. De Villiers thinks Watson is a saint. White knows he is a snake in the grass.

I would love to believe much of what you have posted there but my experiences on Keo reminds me of very many negative and derogatory things you post her and that is where I have to hesitate. But in fairness to you I will not prejudge you here and will watch with interest your reaction. Accept from me, that if Div makes stupid changes for example like Muir did for the Sharks semi I will also be critcal of him. For me the game is always bigger than the team and the team bigger than the player etc.

I have read that article and it really does not add to much. Gives me the impression that Keo got a negative response for a request and did not like it so now needs to spew off about anything.
By his own reasoning he has no right himself ( let alone you or me) to any rugby opinion because he will not ever qualify to coach a Bok team let alone one in the 3N or the WC for that matter.
However, he may have already sown the first seeds for the team not to play for the coach in large numbers(so fragile is the Rainbow nation, whatever that means) and if that happens they may as well cancel his contract before the 2nd Welsh test. Keo is always a chameleon as whatever he wants to be to the rugby people he will be that colour. It is called promoting his cause.

Very few players match Andre Venter in my book. The defenition of uncompromising. So many great memories of him playing. And it wasnt that long ago he was charging around.Must be a daily fight just to get around now and do normal sort of stuff in a wheelchair after being such an incredible sportsperson. He will be up for it for sure though. I know he will give the guys a lift.He continues to be an inspiration to myself for his stamina in these very hard yards. What a man.Respect.

Not my fault if your vocabulary is as limited as it is. And you clearly do not, in the English language, know the difference between a noun, verb, an adverb or an adjective. Those sentences have all those and for your education be informed that an adverb modifies/qualifies a verb and an adjective qualifies a noun and genome is a noun and unravelling is a verb, the loaned Afrikaans words are colloquial nouns and so on and so forth. As for ‘dirty’ you clearly do not know what the word means. What is dirty about ‘vuil uil’ or ‘skollie’ and do you remember all those Afrikaans swear words that your group are so limited in using when emotionally disturbed which is on a daily basis. A clear case of the pot(black) calling the kettle(shining silver) black. You and your buddies are just a very bad S.African anachronism. Who really takes you all seriously except yourselves? You are grossly unconvincing always and do never pull the wool over my eyes ever. So get lost
