Veterans boost Province
10 Jun 2008
AJ Venter and Willem de Waal have linked up with the Western Province squad and will join the side on a three day camp in Somerset West.
Province have completed two resounding victories over an East Cape XV and a Namibian XV, but are still lacking some experience when compared to their first Currie Cup opponents, the Sharks. Venter and De Waal will add value in this department, as will Super 14 regulars Ross Skeate and Wylie Human.
Coach Allister Coetzee said he was pleased with side’s progress.
”We have used our two warm up games successfully to provide opportunities to a number of younger players to help ascertain as to whether they are capable of making the step up to Currie Cup rugby. The loss of 18 players to the Springboks, Emerging Boks and also Fiji [Sireli Naqelevuki] has necessitated the need for a camp which will provide an opportunity to knit and focus a competitive group of players and to step up the intensity as we approach our first league fixture against the Sharks in Durban.”
The camp will run from 11-13 June in Somerset West. WP play their first game a week later at the Absa Stadium, and the captain will be announced in the build up.

Old Drag-a-fowl is a promising youngster!!!!
10 Jun 2008, 19:00 pm
xu
what position does he play
10 Jun 2008, 19:26 pm
The starting line up will probably look like:
15. Pieterson
14. Human
13 Rhyland
12 Des Fountain
11 Vermeulen
10 de Waal
9 Delport
1 Harris
2 Fourie
3 Ferreira
4 Fondse
5 Skeate
6 Venter
7 Louw
8 Melck
That is 7 who played this year for the Stormers and one who played for the Sharks. The pack is reasonably solid and they have the bonus of the big boot of de Waal at flyhalf. This team is good enough to stay at least in contention for the CC play-offs until the Springboks return.
