Mallett’s men stun Pumas
29 Jun 2008
Nick Mallett’s first season with Italy finished on a high when they snatched a dramatic 13-12 away win against Argentina.
Replacement Leonardo Ghiraldini was judged to have scored in the 80th minute after a maul crossed the line, a decision hotly contested by the Pumas. Andrea Marcato then converted to give Italy their second win in 15 meetings with the South Americans.
The match was not a great spectacle and it was the refereeing of Australian Matt Goddard, who gave 30 penalties during the match, which attracted the most attention.
Argentina, who were ranked third in the world before this match, led 12-3 at half-time.
Argentina – Penalties: Juan Hernandez (2), Marcelo Bosch (2)
Italy – Try: Leonardo Ghiraldini. Conversion: Andrea Marcato. Penalties: Marcato (2)

A fantastic result for Italy the Bokkes win over the Italians is put into a little more perspective and makes it that much more impressive.

Daar was geen trots in daardie span nie, bloot geluk.
Mallett is dalk ‘n goeie afrigter, maar sy span moet miskien maar nagklubs vermy na ‘n groot verloor.
