Heyneke back to winning ways
7 Sep 2008
Heyneke Meyer began his tenure in the English Premiership on a winning note with Leicester beating Gloucester 20-8 on Sunday.
The Tigers had been put through their paces in the pre-season, and the improved fitness levels were evident in Sunday’s big away victory. Meyer’s side only conceded one try despite a determined Gloucester attack, and the former Bulls mentor commended his charges for their dogged defence in the aftermath.
Butch James also inspired his English club to victory when Bath beat Bristol 33-20. The Springbok flyhalf kicked 18 points just eight days after the big Tri-Nations win over Australia at Ellis Park. This was also the first time Bath has beaten Bristol at the Memorial Stadium since 1998.
Bath coach Steve Meehan lauded James for his match-winning effort.
“He makes things look easy. He is one of those players who has time on the ball. He has a lot of confidence on the guys in front of him and he has this marvellous way of talking to everyone on the field to organise them.”
In other Premiership matches, a Nick Evans inspired Harlequins downed Saracens despite the try-scoring intentions of former Bok scrumhalf Neil de Kock. Faan Rautenbach’s London Irish were more successful in their 26-14 win over rivals Wasps on Saturday.

Who cares about Heyneke when you’ve got the Snor?
7 Sep 2008, 22:12 pm
It was an away win by Heyneke’s team. Not bad at all. And apparently the goalkicker kicked almost as badly as Morne Steyn. I’m sure Heyneke will be bringing Hougaard in as soon as he recovers from injury.

HOUGAARD IS A BOLAND BOYTJIE THRU AND THRU

#2 Tacitus: You didn’t watch it did you Tacitus? Maybe if you did your comment would be different as they were lucky to win, due to the worst decisions by the Gloucester players I have ever seen!
That said Heyneke is a great coach and the team suits his boring style. Success awaits him I’m sure.
Oh Taci what did you think of Saturday? I was in Seventh Heavan. Morne missing the kick for the bonus point rivaled Jean’s intercept try for met!

# Uncle F*cker: Haha watching ESPN and guess who makes the headlines there for his “give back to the whites” quote! I really hope he was misquoted or something…
Yes we are truly the laughing stock of the Rugby World.
7 Sep 2008, 22:31 pm
ya just saw gary playa nw 2
7 Sep 2008, 22:34 pm
#5 Bagel: I hope to God he does NOT ‘give it back to the whites’. He is just going for the easy way out again – play the race card!
7 Sep 2008, 22:39 pm
#2 Tacitus: would have loved to have Hougaart there in Durbs yesterday
7 Sep 2008, 22:41 pm
Who’s involved with this “give it back to the whites” saga?
7 Sep 2008, 22:47 pm
#4 Bagel:
Smugness does not become you. You’re much more likeable when you’re the usual Bagel. Guess one bonuspoint win has gone to your head. Pity.
7 Sep 2008, 22:48 pm
#9 Yetirat: Bizarre how the rest of the world is running with the story about PdV ‘giving his job back to the whites’, yet no word from Keo on the matter?
I guess the performance of Heyneke’s team is more important than the future of the Bok coach.
7 Sep 2008, 22:50 pm
#10 Tacitus: Let me bask in the glory of my victory please.
They don’t come very often…
7 Sep 2008, 22:55 pm
#12 Bagel:
Fair enough. Fact is, I’m really disappointed by the Bulls game. They had that game in the bag. This result is going to cost them R5 million bucks, since they cannot end 1st anymore. My only hope now is that WP make it into 4rth spot, and somehow manage to beat the Sharks in the semifinal in Durban. That will set up a Bulls/WP final at Loftus. What a clash that would be.
7 Sep 2008, 23:03 pm
#13 Tacitus: You guys did have it in the bag for certain. You can take a lot of positives from the game though. Stegman, Olivier are great at the moment and I was impressed with Chilliboy’s workrate when he came on. I think he’s got a point to prove. Steyn is a good flyhalf but pressure seems to get to him with the kicking.
Again a weak performance by FdP. Matfield was better and Rossouw was great. Overall I think at home you guys are the best. But this Wp side of mine look deadly when they turn it on. Which they didn’t on Saturday…
A North South clash would be epic with Watson scoring a drop goal in the last second to steal it!
7 Sep 2008, 23:11 pm
So what’s Snor going to give back to the whites? The wreckage of what he has broken?
7 Sep 2008, 23:13 pm
#15 TheTackler: If the man has been quoted correctly, that will qualify as a rascist statement. Jody Kollopin [sp?] from the HRC should get involved.
7 Sep 2008, 23:14 pm
#15 TheTackler: Broken? So you admit there was something to break before! Wow Tackler, thanks, the ABs aren’t too bad themselves.
7 Sep 2008, 23:15 pm
#13 Tacitus: WP ending 4th, pigs might fly. But then again thats what I said about WP beating Freestate.
7 Sep 2008, 23:25 pm
#18 Loosehead: a 2nd 5th place for WP , now that will be the joke of the year. But lets see maybe we will get a dream final between Bulls and WP
7 Sep 2008, 23:26 pm

#22 Tacitus: ja no use hanging around if rugby is not the topic. Good bye
7 Sep 2008, 23:55 pm
#11 Uncle F*cker:
In fairness to keo, tis Sunday
Keo’s article comes out Monday morning.
If he plans to write about it then his minions won’t be allowed yo.
Having said that PdV’s ‘issue’ has got bugger all to do with rugby (unless this blackmail attempt did happen)
And SARU are hardly likely to want any blackmail attempt to be proven.
And the blackmailer (if he exists) is unlikely to step fwd.
Hope this goes away quickly

#13 Tacitus:
Bulls can’t end 1st?
Gee Tacitus you are more optimistic about the Sharks than me.
Of course I think its bad luck to be too cocky.
But we have the Cheetahs at home and the Lons away.
Something could still go wrong.

Here’s hoping Pdv stays in the job, despite the 5 million temptation. I guess if it was me, I’ take the money and run, but i think Pdv will stay. Fight. Like most us do everyday. So what if the press manager ***** eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss and the players had a problem with the cross dresser since wales test in bloem (Sondag newspaper), you guys no doubt will support the words coming from the lips of Chris Hewit, Mr Lip gloss and Mascara 2008. The face of SA rugby. We have really become a rainbow nation and I am strangely proud of everyone, on behalf of my hairdresser et al. No truely. I think if people hear Chris Hewit, we are at least moving toward accepting homosexuals in rugby, if not blacks and that is something special.

#17 Bagel: Well, Snor DID inherit the world champions, after all. And then he lost a whopping 4 out of 6 tests in the 3N, including two out of three at home. Jake White inherited a shocking easybeat rabble from Rudi and then won the entire 3N at his very first go, including winning ALL of his home tests.
Yet Snor demanded a starting wage equal to Jake’s closing wage.
And Jake always kept his pants on — well, at least within public view if not behind closed doors.
Spot the difference.

#15 TheTackler: You are so racist its breathe taking. Spectacular Tackler!!! Dinner for 3 with you would be phenomenal.Your Heros no doubt. You, Eugene Terreblanche and PV Botha. Birds of a feather and all. Wow. I dare you to say: “the boks are kak.”. Two likely scenarios. Eugene, may get pissed off, and moer you, or ride off with you on his horse into the Sunset, Scarlet O’Hara moment and all.
8 Sep 2008, 00:37 am
#29 TheTackler: 49 – 0.Jake or Snor?
8 Sep 2008, 00:50 am
#30 hater: Isn’t it sad that your only response to TheTackler’s comments is an accusation that he is racist. Pathetic. Why don’t you argue the point?
8 Sep 2008, 01:02 am
Hi, just a few things:
1) Congrats to the Sharks supporters. Well done guys – you deserved your win over us. Pienaar’s kicking was awesome.
2)#10 Tacitus:
Quite a few WP supporters who is taking this one win too far. They are still fifth on the log and they carry ons as if the ccup is won. But, I guess, thats typical of WP.
3) To that Sharks supporter (about 24, 25) who tried to hit an old man of about 55 on Saturday. You are pathetic! Always thought Sharks had the best supporters, but that guy changed my mind. He kept on stirring and when he was told to respect people more, he became even more of an idiot threw a punch at and old man. Guess it was the alcohol talking…
Ok, again – well done Guppies – think Keegan has our number – he always scores against us.
Congrats to Heyneke’s team who won theire first game eveb though it was away.

#31 hater: 36-0 over world champions England, away from home = Jake.
8 Sep 2008, 02:40 am
#30 hater: Truth does hurt sometimes, does it not?
8 Sep 2008, 02:42 am
#28 hater:
He must just keep his mouth and fly closed and his Bible open, and he should be ok….and he should stay out of racist politics, like his predecessor the The Great White did….
8 Sep 2008, 02:48 am
#36 Pietman: Very hard if the original selection was based on racist politics though…
8 Sep 2008, 02:53 am
#37 Koos:
I feel for our coach.
Blackmailing the coach to select a specific player against his will is just not on.
We saw that with Jake as well, and ‘look’ (pun intended) how badly it turned out for the player concerned.
Why does this kind of ‘mafia styled strong arm underhanded tacticts’ always start in the EC, I wonder (not !!)……
8 Sep 2008, 02:55 am
#33 Supa Die Bloubul: Leicester’s away result was especially impressive as they have the internationals Moody, Castrogiovanni, Mauger, Corry, Hougaard, Rabeni and Deacon all still to return from injury. They’re going to be difficult to stop this year.
8 Sep 2008, 02:58 am
#38 Pietman: Ja Pete, I hear what you saying, just very negative about SA Rugby at the moment, this is not helping!
#39 Big Hit: Counting you chickens very early I see…
8 Sep 2008, 03:04 am
#40 Koos: just excited by the start of the new season, if we could only get rid of this maul ELV…
whats your take on the PDV situation?
8 Sep 2008, 03:05 am
#40 Koos:
Our rugby is ok (look at the weekend’s games), the administration and politics are stuffing it up, too much blatant racism and power struggles.
8 Sep 2008, 03:19 am
#41 Big Hit: Early days but what are the feeling around Elvis…oh and exactly what did you guys end up with?
It is ugly whichever way you look at it, the allegations are bad, hopefully the culprits will be exposed. The rumours are not good…
#42 Pietman: Pete, that will still be the undoing of it all.
8 Sep 2008, 03:28 am
#43 Koos: The feeling is that they’re not as bad as anticipated but most people have commented on the absence of the maul being a negative thing.
The ELVs we ended up with were: no pass back 22 rule, 5m rule, collapsing maul allowed and lineout number laws
I’m intrigued to hear which player was involved if true, judging by PDV’s comments it sounds unlikely that it was Watson.
8 Sep 2008, 03:35 am
#44 Big Hit: And no short arm penalties? Watered down but probably the way it should have been done from the start, more phasing in than the whole lot at once.
Not sure which comments you referring to, but if so it would be strange that he went to the trouble of saying or implying it was not Looke…
The rumours have a solid base but until we know for sure it will only be rumours. I just hope we get to the bottom of it and it does not get quashed at some stage…
8 Sep 2008, 03:42 am
#45 Koos: no short arm penalties, we’re playing under the same rules as the South Africa/Argentina test earlier this summer. Its much more like ‘old’ rugby than the S14 rules (aside from the new maul rule).
PDV talked about the accusers not wanting a black coach, this doesn’t sound at all like the media view of Watson who, if I’ve been following things correctly, has been in favour of transformation.
8 Sep 2008, 03:49 am
#46 Big Hit: I think he was referring to the instigators in the whole affair not wanting a black coach. He has denied the existance of a tape and of balckmail saying it is rumours by people not wanting him there…
8 Sep 2008, 03:54 am
#47 Koos: Sorry for going on about this, but who really cares about whether the allegations are proven true or not? Does it not sicken my fellow Bok supporters that Pdv wants to simply ‘give the job back to the Whites’? After only a half season of international rugby his fighting spirit is gone.
8 Sep 2008, 03:59 am
#48 Uncle F*cker: His response to the allegations is as rediculous as the allegations themself. An attitute like that, blaming racists and ‘giving the game back to the Whites’, shows he is well short of being able to handle the job…
8 Sep 2008, 04:30 am
#49 Koos: If these allegations proves to be true (and I sincerely hope for his part it isn’t, like I did for Hansie), he’s going to look extremely bad having played the race card again.
