Cyberspace mag? You decide

Would you be interested in subscribing to an online edition of SA Rugby magazine?

Please visit http://www.keo.co.za/pages/ for a sample of an online edition and let us know what you think.

If you live in SA would you rather read the mag online or in print? And how much would you be prepared to pay for the online version?

How many of you who live overseas, and aren’t prepared to pay for a print subscription, would consider the online version instead?

would definatelly subscribe, but the online version MUST be
Without The Adverts, its a real pain scrolling down through Adverts,

if you insist on putting adverts in then the Online version must be Free, or you can pay me 5 Dollars U.S Per issue to have to look at the ads.

    “Singapore Grand Prix –
Already it is being billed by many in the sport as the most exciting premiere in Formula One history – a night race through the spectacular Singapore metropolis, on an all-new anticlockwise street circuit that will see drivers speed past historic landmarks such as the Anderson Bridge, St Andrews Road and Raffles Boulevard. It’s a mouth-watering prospect for spectators and participants alike…”

it wouldve been soooooooo much more exiting had escom been responsible to provide the electricity!
jeez, just think, those guys flying off the track at a million miles an hour when escom decide to have a power cut!
now THAT couldve been something i could tell my grandchildren about!!

I subscribed once upon a time but it was like R480 or something.

Would be prepared to pay a little bit less than a full print mag currently costs, simply to make up for the printing and postage.
Would possibly meet you halfway and split the costs with you makign more profit than selling a print version and me paying less.

Oh, and dudes, my favourite part of the mag was always the high def action pics which are many times simply incredible.

If you’re gonna go down this route could I suggest that you make the pics interactive so that the user can zoom in and get really close? Would be awesome.

I havent looked in depth but is there a zoom function currently as the writing seems bloody small.

  • 106.Big Hit: Reply to this comment

#105 Vinnie: click on the writing, it should zoom up

#109 LikkeShark: we are more than likely going to be selling the mag at R23.00 – no matter where in the world you are… ok maybe a few bucks more for blue bull supporters ;) hehehe

#112 church – like chch but pronounceable: hahaha, what do you think of the online mag?

  • 114.Yetirat: Reply to this comment

    Hi Simon,

I live overseas and am subscribed to the SA rugby mag. I’m well aware of companies going the online route to reduce costs and “help the environment”. I find that just by reading Keo.co.za I am completely up to date all the time anyway so the magazine is mainly of interest for interviews etc.

For me personally, nothing beats a good magazine. Reading from a screen is not the same- I do that all day at work and on Keo.co.za. When I turn off the TV and just sit in the garden or go to the bog, I like a good magazine to read and this is where the hard copy comes into its own. There is something more pleasurable in receiving something tangible and I fear i would never actually read an online version.

    #4 Staal:

lol-why are u on this site if ur’e so negative about such a awesome initiative-

    I think it is great

  • 120.wooden spoon: Reply to this comment

Yes, I live overseas and would definitely subscribe, provided it was quite a bit cheaper than the print version considering that there would be no printing or distribution costs.

  • 121.wooden spoon: Reply to this comment

And also a duly considered reduction for not being able to read it on a plane, train, car, loo, etc… Otherwise, good idea.

    #108 SpringbokSarah:

I dont think the question was posed wherther to print or go online.

Many overseas readers would benefit, specially ex saffas wanting to know what is going down here in the couth tip of africa.

  • 123.Gerhardt: Reply to this comment

I would certainly enjoy the online version. As suggested before: Issued user/pw to subscribers in order to view online version as well.

  • 124.wooden spoon: Reply to this comment

#111 Roy: Would you still charge R23 for the online version? See my posts 120 and 121. Not that I’m cheap or anything, but as a matter of principle I wouldn’t pay the same amount for a tangible magazine and an online scanned version where you have to sit and read it on a screen.

  • 125.carol meredith: Reply to this comment

Roy, love the studio shots of Percy. Can I get hold of a decent copy of any of them?

Glad the skincare ad’s are still there. We know how the rugby boys like to care for their skin!!

#110 Roy: what? the teachers can’t teach me anything my dad can’t. And he explains better.

#122 Gerhardt: But most of the articles go on here anyway.

Recently moved to london so missing my SA rugby mag. Count me in if the print is larger than on the sample as I couldnt read much. The price would obviously be a factor as well.

  • 128.china: Reply to this comment

In Oz at the moment and would definitely subscribe to an online mag if the price was right, and know many others that would also

  • 129.Another Kiwi in Oz: Reply to this comment

    I’d be interested too,Thanks.
SA rugby drama(s) are just too interesting.

  • 130.modawg: Reply to this comment

I would definitely subscribe to the cyber mag, go for it.

#127 Bok fan: you just click on the page you wanna read and the page enlarges enough to read.

I work outside SA for 6 months a year, this will be fantastic.

  • 131.Roy: Reply to this comment

#120 wooden spoon: It looks to me that the international market for the mag will gain the most value from this – they are paying R400+ for a year while here in SA the price is around R200. That’s already a 50% saving to the customer, and they can read it the same day it comes out. There is a newer version of software that allows you to download the mag to your PC/laptop for off line viewing.

#130 modawg: Thanks, sorry a bit slow

  • 133.umbhoxoswede: Reply to this comment

Yup I’d definately be up for it! Used to subscribe to SA Rugby, but always got the mag 3 or 4 weeks late up in Sweden. Not worth the money payed. So an online mag would iron out all those problems for overseas readers!

  • 134.Windhoek.Lager: Reply to this comment

Sure I’ll consider subscribing if the price is right.

    No printing costs.
    No postage.
If it’s distributed as a pdf, the bloody ads will still be distributed and thus reach a wider audience.
The impact on the print copy will probably be minimal, so every subscription is nearly pure profit.

So, you’re in a position to pitch it at a very attractive price. VERY attractive.

  • 135.JL1: Reply to this comment

    YES, YES, YES NBYYES!!!

  • 136.bokfan1: Reply to this comment

#134 Windhoek.Lager: Yes a very good point Windy – although I wouldnt say pure profit. There is a bit of development and time taken to get it into the web version – its more than a PDF sortof a Flash document.

But still way cheaper than printing and posting. So the price should be offered to us at a VERY attractive rate :-)

Then perhaps an option to request the monthly poster which can be printed and posted out – possibly even have posters in a larger format and a bit cooler…
