No thanks – specially if it is all “cut&pasted” from other sites/journalists.

  • 5.Loosehead: Reply to this comment

Will it be cheaper? There are no printing and postage costs?

  • 6.Some Bloke: Reply to this comment

It’s hardly a “cyberspace mag” if it’s just copied PDF’s from the original magazine. There’s a reason why web layout is different to print layout. Anyway, a website IS a “cyberspace mag” (just without the geeky moniker).

  • 7.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

Definitely very interested if it’s coming over at a pretty decent price.

Yes, it’ll be great if it was free, but not everything off the internet needs to be totally free to be worth it.

  • 8.Honkie: Reply to this comment

I am based in Hong Kong, will definately subscribe. SA rugby is such soap story that it will be great to have a online mag. Beat’s paging through some blogger stuff to get useless often inaccurate info.

  • 9.anderkantdiewater: Reply to this comment

Yes I would because after 6 emails to your subscription section without ANY replies, seems this will be the only way to get the mag overseas.

  • 10.Honkie: Reply to this comment

why comments closed on…bulls bank on help from foes…..? Swings and roundabouts..If Province makes it into the semi’s you can bet your bottom dollar they are going to kick butt – no matter where it is played. After been down and out the pride and joy of SA rugby is back….

I would subscribe but only if able to print the whole magazine to take away and read on the trains. I’m guessing the ability to only do one page at a time is for the demo.

  • 15.Sucaballuc: Reply to this comment

    Absolutely.
The cost of international shipping makes the mag prohibitively expensive.

  • 17.midnight.mangler: Reply to this comment

Yes, I would pay for an online subscription. Very convenient, and no postal delays. I am now in the position of asking my family to buy me a monthly copy, which means I only get to read them all when I come back to SA for christmas…

  • 18.midnight.mangler: Reply to this comment

One thing though – I looked at the download option, which seems pretty daft, you can only download one page at a time. A consolidated PDF would be great.

  • 19.midnight.mangler: Reply to this comment

Oh, and being able to purchase electronic “back copies” in the archives would be good as well.

  • 32.Bullsmaakseer: Reply to this comment

Yes, I would be interested in subscribing, HOWEVER, what worries me is the accuracy of some of your articles. For example, Saterday Grant Ball indicated in his article on the KEO website that the Lions won 29 – 10 against Boland whilst the score was actually 31 -10. Yes, I know the difference is only 2 points, but it is still INCORRECT information. This was also not the first time KEO indicated incorrect scores on its website. Please be careful as many rugby fanatics need the correct scores.

#54 rangerman: Maputo sounds great, was there in 1999. Stayed on an island, only camping avail, had to fetch water from a well. Lots and lots and lots of fish. They would practically jump from the reef onto your braai! Unbelievable that places like that still exist.

Thought of that too, but the power for computers is so small the footprint is negligeable compared to even a walk to your CNA for a newspaper. Also carbon sink is better left in place then chopped down. At some point I am looking to buy a home wind-turbine solution. All power supplied in Cape Town conditions. Except heating – then solar for geyser, but on grid at times. Cooking methods too – to cook rice can take 40 mins, but if you use the wrap technique all you need to do is bring it to the boil in a few mins, wrap in a thermal blanket and in 20 mins you will have a steaming pot of fluffy rice/lentils/whatever etc cooked to perfection.

Good idea. I won’t buy/read it online myself but my feeling is someone overseas would. I’d rather have the mag in my hands on a Sunday afternoon, with a cold beer next to me – just doesn’t have the same effect doing the same on my laptop :)

Maybe a model to follow is the same that the Mail & Guardian does – have a look at http://www.mg.co.za. Also, might be worth your while to give them a call. Sure they have some insghts for you to learn from…

Still, if there was opportunity for me to make comments on articles, mag layout, new features etc – I would consider it more.

    Hi Simon,

I live overseas and am subscribed to the SA rugby mag. I’m well aware of companies going the online route to reduce costs and “help the environment”. I find that just by reading Keo.co.za I am completely up to date all the time anyway so the magazine is mainly of interest for interviews etc.

For me personally, nothing beats a good magazine. Reading from a screen is not the same- I do that all day at work and on Keo.co.za. When I turn off the TV and just sit in the garden or go to the bog, I like a good magazine to read and this is where the hard copy comes into its own. There is something more pleasurable in receiving something tangible and I fear i would never actually read an online version.

I would definitely subscribe to the cyber mag, go for it.

#127 Bok fan: you just click on the page you wanna read and the page enlarges enough to read.

I work outside SA for 6 months a year, this will be fantastic.

#120 wooden spoon: It looks to me that the international market for the mag will gain the most value from this – they are paying R400+ for a year while here in SA the price is around R200. That’s already a 50% saving to the customer, and they can read it the same day it comes out. There is a newer version of software that allows you to download the mag to your PC/laptop for off line viewing.

Yup I’d definately be up for it! Used to subscribe to SA Rugby, but always got the mag 3 or 4 weeks late up in Sweden. Not worth the money payed. So an online mag would iron out all those problems for overseas readers!

Sure I’ll consider subscribing if the price is right.

    No printing costs.
    No postage.
If it’s distributed as a pdf, the bloody ads will still be distributed and thus reach a wider audience.
The impact on the print copy will probably be minimal, so every subscription is nearly pure profit.

So, you’re in a position to pitch it at a very attractive price. VERY attractive.

#134 Windhoek.Lager: Yes a very good point Windy – although I wouldnt say pure profit. There is a bit of development and time taken to get it into the web version – its more than a PDF sortof a Flash document.

But still way cheaper than printing and posting. So the price should be offered to us at a VERY attractive rate :-)

Then perhaps an option to request the monthly poster which can be printed and posted out – possibly even have posters in a larger format and a bit cooler…

Keo.co.za has always promoted uncensored views, but has never tolerated racist or crass outbursts. Come on guys and girls. If you can't moderate yourselves or each other then I am going to be forced to regulate the posts and enforce a registration process for comments. The choice is yours.

Have your say
