Hougaard helps Leicester
4 Oct 2008
Derick Hougaard kicked 14 points in his Leicester debut to claim a rare away win at Bath.
The visitors could only manage one try through Ben Youngs in their 19-14 EDF Energy Cup victory at the Rec, but the former Bulls flyhalf did the rest courtesy of a conversion of the score, three penalties and a drop goal. The match was billed as the Hougaard vs Butch James show, but the latter was rested for the encounter.
Leicester Boss Heyneke Meyer was full of praise for Hougaard.
“It’s great to have a guy who is used to playing tactically and we used our chances better in the game,” said Meyer.
“You need very good number 10 in these competitions and Derick is a good tactical player who can turn a game around. He will be one of the best players in the Premiership especially as he learns to play in different conditions. He’s got a lot to offer.”
Hougaard acknowledged that he took a while to become accustomed to the pace of the game, but once he had the wind at his back in the second stanza he used the conditions to his team’s advantage.
“The game didn’t start very well for me but I got into the groove. I didn’t panic, just tried to keep myself focused,” said Hougaard.
“With a slight lead and wind advantage for the second half we knew we were in a good position.”

What songs did they play when he got his kicks over?
5 Oct 2008, 13:29 pm
how easy they shine in second division competition

And so the Premiership gets a little more boring… (If that was possible?)

#3 Bagel:
NZ’s World Cup quarter final loss was real exciting while SA’s World Cup final win was as boring as they come. I know which one I’d take 10 times out of 10, though. And that’s really what this whole excitement versus structured rugby debate comes to, isn’t it.

So, when they win, we hear of it very fast, but when they loose, you hear nothing at all? Dumb-@$$es.

What is your real gripe here? What’s your burning motive?
To somehow prove that Heyneke Meyer is not a good coach? Else why make such a big deal out of something that is really irrelevent in all other respects to the average SA supporter. The only reason why posts relating to the European competitions might be relevent to South Africans, is if South African players or coaches are making noteworthy contributions in the competition.
So I come back to my original question. Why are you so upset that every little stubmle or setback relating to the above individuals are not immediately pointed out on this website?

Why do you feel it necessary to defend Heyneke?
Those who do not believe he is a great coach never will.
So why bother?

“Hougaard helps Leicester”
why is it not “Hougaard kicks Bath into submission” or something similar to the praise singing headlines we get on Keo when James plays for Bath and they win?
Sounds like he did a lot but the headline plays it down

Read my post again. I wasn’t making a case for Meyer. I was trying to expose the motive behind a South African fan being unhappy with a positive article about South Africans in the UK. Pointing out the absurdity of it.

#10 Tacitus: I don’t think Darquaan has any ulterior motives regarding your idol, rather the shoddy news coverage this site provides in respect of NH rugby. If I recall correctly, there was no match report for the Leicester game last week, which they lost to Wasps at home. I’d like to see more coverage of NH rugby on this site, particularly because of the multitude of Saffas involved.
And trust me, I have nothing against Meyer – I’m a Tigers fan (it being the closest club after Worcester to where I live) – so it’s nice to have an SA connection.

I read your post a number of times.
But it is funny that you ‘just so happen to be a fan of Meyer, a Bulls supporters and a person that believes he should have been our Bok coach’.
I too reckon Meyer is a brilliant coach.
I just find it funny how when it comes to provincialism in SA, how fans either defend or attack a point of view.
I mean imagine my post-supper conversations with all my WP mates where I state categorically that I am a fan of Meyer and White, and how we will wait 20 years to see another successful domestic coach like we did in Meyer… It is a hoot.

#12 PissAnt: When a coach is in charge for as long as Meyer was then maybe… He is a great coach but he developed at the Bulls. He wasn’t top class from the beginning. He is a great coach because he found the perfect environment at the Bulls as they are (although I despise them) the most professional union who have a different but effective way of running themselves. Like a family type thing where Meyer was backed against all odds. Ludeke would have been fired at any union but the Bull’s kept him and he seems to be vindicating them…

What they fail to mention was that Bath rested a host of top players… but congratulations to Hekneke and Liefling!!

If you are a Derek Hougaard fan or not. He ended his stint with the Bulls with a pain in his *** and a bad shoulder. At least he played a full match without another apparent injury.
5 Oct 2008, 23:00 pm
PissAnt, I’m in the same boat – also a Meyer fan and a WP supporter. Meyer had a stint with the Stormers in the late nineties as I recall and the Stormers were the best SA Super 12 team at that stage. And we know what he did with the Bulls.

**** but u guys can blubber on about ****!!
damn…Heineke’s team won. Cool…some ppl like him, others dont….u dont,..dont read.
6 Oct 2008, 03:17 am
hehe it would be pretty cool if they played ‘Liefling” every time he kicked a pnealty or conversion there too! Who would’ve though that that song could’ve been played in the Premiership?
someone must speak to their announcer over there…
6 Oct 2008, 03:18 am
Except that Hougaard himself may start crying if he has to hear that again…
6 Oct 2008, 06:37 am
To all the WP supporters: You were shooting their loads, telling me the whole week last week that the Sharks are chokers and that we’ll lose to you in the semi’s. It seems WP first need to stop choking and reach the semi’s. Yes, that’s two chokes in row.
*****.

#6 Tacitus: Listen *******, I love HM and used to be a big fan of Liefling as well before this year. I posted last week as well about this when they only reported on Bath and failed to mention HM end his team. They only report the good news about HM. I want the full scope regarding this. Seems they want to protect the hero from any bad exposure. That is all I am saying.#
11 wooden spoon: Like you said. Shoddy reporting. Mentioned it with the “Imran is white” article as well.

#5 Darquan: They only lost once and it was posted on keo you poor idiot.

#20 King Shark: Province should be relegated.

#23 World Cup: You talking about this article?
Here they mention the loss bouncing back from the loss the previous week.
I’m talkin about this one where they didn’t mention it.
Who’s the idiot now?
#22 BlueBlood: You got some ANC minister in you?The “if you don’t like it, leave” mentallity? And I don’t need to be impressed by Keo or his “journalists”, just hope not to be dissapointed by them. And I come here mostly for the post of the users. Even if there are people here like you and some others who accuse me of having alteriour motives regarding HM

#21 Darquan: Just posted an appology for calling Tacitus a name and it was removed!! How does that work!?!
By the way, Tacitus. I shouldn’t have called you name. Just got a sudden rush of blood due to your accusation regarding my motive and it was uncalled for. Should just have explained the first post as I did last time I asked the question.
Have your say
