Wilko to miss Six Nations

Crocked flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson is unlikely to be fit for England’s 2009 Six Nations campaign.

Wilkinson has already been ruled out of England’s November Tests, meaning Danny Cipriani could wear the No 10 shirt when the Boks visit Twickenham. Wilkinson underwent knee surgery last week and there’s doubt he will be ready when the Six Nations tournament kicks off next February.

“We have been told that four months is a time scale we should be working towards,” Newcastle Director Steve Bates told the Evening Standard. “If, for any reason, they have to go back into the knee then the timing could be different.”

Even if Wilkinson recovers by February he is unlikely to be fit enough to start against Italy in England’s opening game.
